Sony is hoping to boost digital record sales with a new iPhone app that offers a discounted album every 24 hours. Prices are slashed by as much as 70 percent in the Album of the Day app, and all purchases are made through iTunes.

“Every 24 hours, Album of the Day offers you one album from the artists you know and love at a special limited time only promotional price,” Sony says. Each deal comes with track previews and a comprehensive description of the album on offer.

A timer displays how much time you have left to take advantage of the reduction, and there’s a share button that allows you to pass the promotion onto friends via email, SMS, or Twitter. You can also swipe through previous discounts to see what you missed out on.

And to ensure you don’t miss out on other deals in the future, Album of the Day offers push notifications that will alert you as soon as a new deal goes live. This also mean you don’t need to remember to check the app every day; you can ignore it until an album you want goes on sale.

Some of the artists that will feature in Album of the Day promotions include include P!ink, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, and Kings of Leon. If you live in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Ireland, you can download the iPhone app now by following the link below.
