Guitar Hero will vanish from the App Store at the end of this month.

Not the best rhythm game available, but still a lot of fun, we praised Guitar Hero back when it first arrived on iOS in 2010. With its price now reduced to 99¢ as a parting gift, it’s absolutely worth picking up if you’re interested in the genre.

Activision will also be pulling its library of song DLC for Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Band Hero for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 games, although servers will stay online and any tracks already purchased will be unaffected.

“We want to thank all of you for supporting Guitar Hero over the last nine years,” Activision wrote in a statement on the official Guitar Hero Facebook page.

The Guitar Hero iOS app was last updated in October 2012, when it was optimized for improved performance with iOS 6.

Well, we guess you either die a Guitar Hero or live long enough to become a villain.
