Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has revealed that he’s working on a new skateboarding game for mobile devices.
Hawk made references to the game in two recent interviews: one with Larry King and the other with Bloomberg.
In the King interview, Hawk confirmed that the new game is coming “earlier [rather] than later” this year, and will feature swipe controls.
In the Bloomberg interview (video game comments start at the 4 minute 10 second mark), he notes that:
“We’ve never gone exclusively [in the mobile] direction yet so I’m excited because, with the amount of time people are spending on their phones and their tablets playing games, we’ve never had our own game in that space so I’m excited to provide one finally.”
In fact, Hawk has had a game out for mobile previously: a port of the 2000 hit Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 which is currently available in the App Store. From Hawk’s comments, however, it would seem safe to assume (based on his use of the word “exclusively”) that this will be a brand new title, rather than a conversion of an older title.
There’s not a whole lot more to the story at this stage, although it will be interesting to see if the new title is able to re-capture some of the early 2000s momentum of what was, at its height, a fantastic video game franchise.
