Here’s What The iPhone 6 & iPhone 6c Might Look Like Running iOS 8 [Gallery]

It’s at least six months until Apple reveals iOS 8, and probably nine months until we see the iPhone 6 for the first time, but that hasn’t stopped Eric Vasille of iPhonesoft from imaging what the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 will look like.

And what does he imagine? On the hardware-side of things, a larger edge-to-edge display (doubtful) with an iPad Air inspired design (possible) that is only six milimets thin with an SD card slot (nope) and a 20 megapixel camera (sure, why not).

iOS 8, on the other hand, is jus a slightly refined version of iOS 7, which seems pretty likely: Jony Ive isn’t going to recreate Apple’s mobile operating system twice in as many years. Now comes the polish.

Vasille also imagines the iPhone 6c as a plastic-backed version of the iPhone 6, but I’m doubtful we’ll see that this year: it’s more likely to me that Apple will simply upgrade the chip inside the current iPhone 5c to an A7 chip and sell the current iPhone 5c unchanged for another year than update it significantly next year, but I could be wrong.

    Did you mean to say:

“imagining what the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 will look like.”

iPhone 5s will probably sport a bigger display, around 5″, be slightly bigger but even thinner and lighter, look even more like the iPad, and get a new name, iPhone Air. The rest will be more or less the same.

iPhone 5c will probably stay as is with internal upgrades, to be known as the iPhone mini.

2013 was the start of the transition to a two-phone lineup, which confused many. 2014 will be the completion of it and suddenly everyone gets it.

Maybe in iOS 8 we’ll get more than more rows of icons? I hate that we can’t get away from such a useless waste of space paradigm…

  • muckywun

I’m interested in creating some mockups of my own. Is anyone able to tell me what software or process Eric is using to create these? Thanks!

    Nope. It’s all very un-Apple.

No premiere brand feeling at all. Samsung-LG-HTC-like…

I always liked the edge to edge look for the iPhones in earlier concepts but the look is indeed screaming samsung now.

This guy is clearly clueless… If you know ANYTHING about Ive’s approach to minimalism, why would you ADD three dots in the message icon? Or a pencil on notes?

If there’s gonna be changing of the icons, it will be the colors. (I hope they change A LOT of the visual in iOS 7)

No SD card slot. No USB port. Camera will never be that high in mega pix cause it’s pointless. Hit perhaps 12 tops if that much and then focus in light sensor, flash etc.

iOS 8 will likely look just like iOS 7 but with new tweaks and tricks. Hopefully some of the old tricks will even come back like how you used to be able to create contact groups (now let’s be able to add contacts to them, switch cards between non exchange services and use the groups in email etc for addressing)

As for the notion of a 6 and 6c. I can see it. Move the 5s internals, with perhaps a few adjustments) into the c body. Maybe keep the 4s one more year, maybe just create an 8 GB 6c as the ‘cheap’ model. They might even do like they did with the touch and keep that one model basically the 5c and have a 6c mid and 6 ‘supreme’ model

He changed several of them and none of it makes sense. Either pointless or worse than before.

Frankly I don’t see them changing any icons majorly or the colors. But perhaps this will finally be the year of plug ins etc and they will allow for the creation of themes and folks that just have to have something else can get it.
