Google Is Now Ripping Off Apple’s Patents, Right Down To The Drawings

comparison

Google copied pretty much every aspect of iOS when it came up with Android, so I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that the Search Giant is now shamelessly copying Apple’s patents… right down to the drawing.

As noticed by Patently Apple, on the left you have Apple’s already granted patent for a wider MacBook trackpad that would be able to use the Facetime camera to detect whether someone was just resting their hands on the trackpad, or actually using it.

On the right? A new Google patent for a Chromebook that can detect a user’s presence based upon the forward-facing camera. Notice the line drawings used for both are essentially identical. Ballsy, Google!

typical isheep article, the first line shows how uninformed apple fans are. Google never created android, android started 22 months before google bought it in August 2005.

These copy cat arguments need to stop i don’t see people Driving Fords telling everyone their car is a rip off or a copy cat, why is it that this copy cat stuff only seems to apply to smartphones, tablets and computers? What about Coffee makers or Flat Screen TV’s I mean seriously get over it, if you think ios and android look the same you need your eyes checked, maybe early on but not anymore, apple computers are great but their ios devices are still 5 years behind in basic functions even with ios 7 coming up.

it seems apple cultists have nothing left to do but scream copy cat when apple is the king of copy cats wake up apple invented almost nothing, everything they did was based of of old software or old tech end of story.

When will people realize sharing tech is a positive thing it causes technology to advance faster apple should know this better than anyone considering they took decades old smartphone tablet technology to help advance the tech world, but now that apple is literally going no where and their time has passed, android is taking the baton, constantly improving everyday little by little, yet apple choses to stagnate the tech world because of their pride issues instead of helping.

According to the original story, Google submitted their patent application the day after Apple’s patent was granted. I’m sure it was just a coincidence. ;)

Exactly what I have been saying for years, on both your fronts. I use the flat screen TVs as my point. Walk into Walmat or any store that has a TV Dept, and look at them. They are all black rectangles, their interfaces aren’t all that different.

Plus the idea for the patent above has been around for 30+ years. Technology has finally begun to catch up with imagination.

When will you realize we don’t live in that type of society? We work for things to get money, copying other ideas only makes it so there are less of those ideas because they are not rewarded for our work. If we lived in a money-free society you would be right, but we all work and expect some sort of return. We are not doing things out of the kindness of our heart. Even Google is like this, believe it or not.

Your comment shows a complete lack of understanding of the patent world, business research & development, and product development. You have a consumer’s viewpoint. Let’s just suppose you were a businessman/woman and personally owned a technology company producing electronic gear of some kind. Imagine that you’d developed the company over many years, spent thousands of hours hiring employees, leading them to research and develop brand new technology, spending hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries and development costs over a number of years. The whole point of doing this is to advance technology and make money from the sale of the product(s).

Imagine then another company coming along and simply copying what you’ve spent years and millions of dollars to develop, stealing all your ideas and hard work. I’m sure if it was you who had spent all this time, money and effort, you’d feel royally PO’d at the people who benefitted from it with relatively little expense to themselves. It would make you wonder why you ever decided to sweat your life and years away doing all the hard work for others.

The proper and legal action is to LICENSE the technology from the person or group that developed it, to reward them for all their hard work and to have the privilege of using that technology in your products. This licensing thing has been going on for well over a century, so it’s not a new idea.

This has nothing to do with rounded rectangles or other ridiculous minutiae that have been put forward by Apple bashers to obfuscate the issues. Prior to the iPhone there was nothing like it. Apple took the basic concept of a phone, a mobile computer, an Internet browser, a camera, a video recorder and a music player, and put them all into one compact digital device in ways that had never been dreamed of before–all controlled with a touch interface on a screen with no physical keyboard that was revolutionary for its time. No one was producing a phone like that, and now everyone is. Same thing happened with the iPad.

If you want to use someone else’s inventions and ideas, you have 3 legal choices:

    1. License the technology and use it,
    2. Develop your own different technology without copying, or
    3. Wait until the copyright and patent protection expires and it goes into the public domain so you can use it for free.

To simply take proprietary, hard won research and development without licensing is theft. Criminals don’t think it’s wrong to steal stuff from others. They have a bad time about the concept of ownership, because everything belongs to everyone. Criminals don’t make, they take.

sharing tech does not equal claiming tech or claiming to be owners or creators of tech and at a business level your entire post is null and void, and thats what patents are about, the business level. this one the one downside to the proliferation of all info regardless of relevance, suddenly people want to comment and make decisions/form opinions in the consumer realm based on information that originated and belongs staying in the business world, much like recent developments having people feeling like social judgements should somehow have an impact on or even override judicial judgements and truly seeming ignorant to any idea that they should be completely separate and all because they are trusting all of the 24/7 “news coverage” from a couple non journalists with an agenda. The SAME exact people are usually the ones raving about the illuminati and “the elite” and their manipulation of anything and everything but suddenly the news is 100% legit.

I am sure it was just a coincidence? Did you even look at the patents? Similarity is one thing but this was a blatant rip off.

Apple is its own worst enemy. The company is unable to defend its own patents. Apple continues to leave itself wide open for attack from rival companies and its destroying Apple’s value. Every time Apple comes out with a hit product, dozens of rival companies duplicate it with impunity. I’m willing to bet Google’s search algorithms are well-protected and nobody would be able to use them. That’s why Google will become a more valuable company than Apple. It’s smart enough to know how to beat Apple by riding on Apple’s coat-tails. Apple never counter-attacks any of its rivals so rivals know they have nothing to fear from Apple. Apple is a pushover of a company led by a pushover of a CEO.

    Did they buy Android? Yep.
Did it look like iOS in 2005? Nope.
Did it look like iOS *after* 2007, when iOS (then iPhone OS), came out and Google already owned it and was actively developing it? Sure did.

So while you’re over there splitting hairs, the grown ups will be at the big table. Make sure you drink your juice.
