“Everything starts with a dream,” goes an old saying — and it even applies to computer setups. Today’s attractive and highly functional M4 Pro MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Studio Display setup amounts to a dream for its owner. But in expressing that dream on social media, its owner found commenters had plenty to say about their versions of “an Apple fan’s dream setup.”

In a post entitled “An Apple Fan’s Dream Setup,” Redditor mcaputo023 (“Cap”) showcased the capable M4 Pro MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Studio Display setup. And with those powerful core components, it truly is a dreamy Apple-centric setup.
Though it became clear looking at the post that the title indicated the workstation is Cap’s dream workstation, plenty of commenters threw in opinions about what an Apple fan’s dream setup should be. To many of these remarks Cap generally responded along the lines of “to each his own.”
Here are some of the top aspirational “dream setup” comments:
- “If it had a Mac Studio then it would be perfect for me.” (Turns out Cap had one and they “almost” miss it.)
- “My dream setup wouldn’t have a 60Hz LED display though. Lovely setup though. I do wish Apple made a 120Hz 5K OLED.”
- “A ‘dream’ set up has a Pro Display XDR.”

Hardware colors
“This is lovely. Silver laptop would have looked great here, too,” offered a commenter.
“In all reality it probably would have looked better IMO but I’m committed to space black, for better or worse,” Cap replied. The commenter said they’re inspired enough by the setup to do a version of their own in a new home.
No keyboard? Ah, it’s a Touch ID thing.
“You seem to have a nice set of keyboards, why not use them instead of the MacBook one?” asked another commenter. A literal stack of mechanical keyboards is visible in the background of Cap’s shot showing his MacBook Pro.
“Great question!” Mac replied. “I’m a big fan of high-profile keyboards, but Touch ID brings me back from time to time. I need to build a standalone Touch ID sensor one of these days.”
And another person chimed in regarding a Touch ID alternative: “Or just buy an Apple Watch :) which one is cheaper?”
Display layout
“Been tinkering with so many layouts for a laptop/monitor setup,” noted a commenter. “After a while of experimenting, the vertical stack approach is my favorite. Don’t see it much on this sub but you did a really nice job showcasing it!”
“I’ve run the gamut with monitors and different configurations and this works the best for the way I think and work,” Cap replied. His “stack” is his MacBook display under his Studio Display. “While the screen real estate is great for two monitors SBS, I tend to get lost and distracted with work.”
