The Apple Online Store has gone down hours ahead of today’s special event. “Be right back,” reads a notice on the site. “We’re making updates to the Apple Store. Check back soon.”
When the Online Store returns after the conclusion of today’s “By Innovation Only” event, we expect to see information about new iPhones, a refreshed Apple Watch, and more.

A whole lot of innovation is in the offing for Apple’s biggest hardware event of the year. CEO Tim Cook recently promised that Apple will unleash its strongest product lineup ever, and next week’s “By Innovation Only” event could be just the tip of the iceberg.
Thanks to a glut of leaked info, we have a pretty solid idea about what new hardware to expect during the event. iPhones obviously will steal the spotlight, but Apple might unleash a few surprises as well.
This is what we think we’ll see during the 2019 iPhone keynote, which starts at 10 a.m. Pacific on September 10. Apple will live-stream it from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
Surprise, surprise, your iPhone isn’t as vulnerable to being hacked as Apple’s chief rival says it is. Photo: Pexels
The accusations Google recently made about iOS security flaws were greatly overstated, deliberately “stoking fear” in iPhone users, according to Apple. The iPhone maker points out that the issues were much more narrow than its rival indicated, and were online for only a brief time.

An Apple Store in San Mateo’s Hillsdale Shopping Center was targeted by a trio of thieves Thursday night. They escaped from the San Mateo robbery with 40 Apple products.
The San Mateo robbery was reported at 9.01pm Thursday. Cops arrived within two minutes, but the thieves had already escaped. A high-speed pursuit then took place. However, the thieves got away.

An original Apple-I unit recently sold for $471,000 but you can assemble your own replica for much, much less.
Steve Wozniak designed and hand-built the original back in 1976. Anyone who wants to assemble their own today can buy the parts and instructions from SmartyKit.
Some people are willing to pay a lot for a 5G iPhone. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
There’s growing interest in a 5G iPhone, according to survey done by a market-analysis firm. Almost a quarter of current users of Apple handsets would be willing to pay more for an iPhone with a higher-speed wireless connection than the cost of the company’s top-tier device today.
Update: The Twitter account that posted the alleged Apple leak now calls the document a fake.
A supposedly “leaked” Apple employee support document contains alleged details of Apple’s upcoming releases.
The “Apple Software Development Resources” features information about Apple’s three new iPhones, four new Apple Watches, and new iPads. But it may not be entirely (or at all) genuine.
iPhone orders likely to remain flat this year. Photo: Ian Fuchs/Cult of Mac
The days of massive year-on-year growth in iPhone sales are over for now, at least according to one analyst forecasting Apple’s iPhone 11 orders.
According to analysts at Cowen, Apple’s iPhone 11 orders are roughly in line with those for last year’s iPhone refresh. Cowen thinks that Apple will build 65 million iPhones for Q4, representing “flat” growth. That means the “super-cycle” mass upgrade will likely have to wait until 2020.
Sadly, you won't be covered if your Apple Watch looks like this. Photo: Jim Merithew/Cult of Mac
You may be eligible for a free repair if you have an Apple Watch Series 2 or Series 3 with a cracked display.
Apple has confirmed that cracks may be formed along the rounded edge of an Apple Watch display “under very rare circumstances.” Eligible units will be fixed at no cost to the user.
