Users of the Chromecast with Google TV will soon be able to install the Apple TV app. That’ll bring access to Apple’s streaming video service, along with series like Ted Lasso and movies like Wolfwalkers.
This is part of Apple’s efforts to get its video app on as many platforms as possible. Going beyond iPhone Mac, the video software is already on multiple smart TVs, game consoles and more.
The iPhone 12 is seemingly shaping up to be a massive winner for Apple, with a Tuesday report claiming that Apple is set to produce between 20% and 30% more handsets than it did last year.
The report says that Apple has plans to produce up to 230 million iPhones in 2021. While that also includes older handsets like the iPhone 11 and SE, it is primarily driven by “demand for [Apple’s] first-ever 5G” phones, according to Nikkei.
A faster version of the Apple TV set top box apparently isn’t going to unveiled Tuesday morning, despite significant speculation.

UPDATE: Apple took the wraps off AirPods Max headphones and Apple Fitness+ on December 8.
The Apple TV app, which includes Apple TV+ and iTunes, is now available on Sony television sets from 2020, 2019, and high-end 2018 models. Sony initially introduced the Apple TV app to its XH90 (X900H) TV model in October. However, it has now greatly expanded this rollout to cover a large number of its other television models.
In addition to Sony TVs, the Apple TV app is available on certain LG and Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire, Vizio, Roku TVs, and games consoles. That’s in addition to its availability on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV set-top boxes.
Apple TV is now available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The new app gives users the ability to watch Apple TV+, third-party channels like Showtime and Starz, and content purchased from iTunes.
Its launch coincides with the PlayStation 5’s big debut in many key markets, including the United States.
Those who use a Microsoft Xbox as their entertainment center will soon be able to watch the Apple TV+ streaming video service. A version of the Apple TV software will be released for a range of Xbox consoles next Tuesday, including the newest ones.
The Apple TV app is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Sony revealed Thursday.
According to Sony, the Apple TV app will join Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch and YouTube as streaming services that will be available when the PS5 ships on November 12. (Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock, and others are also coming soon.)
Quibi, the mobile-first streaming video service that launched at the worst possible time, is shutting down, according to The Wall Street Journal. The report came Wednesday, just days after Quibi launched an Apple TV app so subscribers could enjoy its bite-size videos on the big screen.
Apple quietly (or as quietly as Apple can do anything, which means it’s widely reported) removed the Apple TV Remote app from the App Store.
The app allowed owners to control their Apple TV without having to use the controversial Siri Remote that comes with the set-top box. It let users navigate Apple TV with touch gestures, quickly enter text using the keyboard, ask Siri to find things to watch, and more.
