When I first saw Uncommon’s customizable iPhone Cases at Macworld in January, I was skeptical. The company lets you print your own designs or artwork on customizable iPhone cases. Their samples looked cool, but I didn’t think they’d look so good with real photos or drawings.
But after testing it out, I’ve got to say I’m absolutely delighted with the results.

I simply scanned the drawing and uploaded the JPG file to Uncommon’s website (the art has to be at least 2,000 by 2,000 pixels in size). I played around with the image on a blank case until I was pleased with the results. I added the completed case to the site’s shopping cart and within a few days I had my custom case. It was so quick and easy.
The case is made from shatterproof polycarbonate with easy access to all the iPhone’s controls and a removable bottom for docking. It’s a really high-quality case, and the artwork isn’t simply printed on the outside. Thanks to Uncommon’s exclusive 3D TATT (Thermo-Active Transdermal Technology) printing process, the ink is embedded into the case for high-resolution, long-lasting images.
If you are not feeling inspired, Uncommon has numerous designs from artists to select from. The art is cool and whimsical (and some is just downright scary).
I really had a fun time making this case. The design turned out brilliantly. It looks exactly like the original artwork.
The only problem is that it is so good, I’m afraid to use it. I don’t want to ruin the case. I’d rather scratch my iPhone.

DO NOT BUY UNCOMMON CASES! This was the biggest waste of $50 I have spent in recent memory. My uncommon case for my ipod4, which arrived two days ago, does not fit any of my standard chargers or auxiliary plugs for my car, my husband’s car, or our stereo system. Essentially, to plug this phone into ANYTHING except an Apple charger I have to take off the entire case. When I called Uncommon to explain the problem and ask for a refund, their customer service was horrible and they were unwilling to even listen to the problem let alone address it. I ordered a pre-printed artist case. If that does not persuade you, consider this: the case is entirely smooth and slides off objects and out of hands dangerously easily. Avoid this product. Cute, but completely impractical.
