I'm looking forward to this.

Fantastical is an awesome little calendar app originally developed for OS X by Flexibits. It sits in your Mac’s menu bar and provides you with quick and easy access to your appointments and reminders. You’re probably already familiar with it; we’ve covered it a number of times here on Cult of Mac, and we’re big fans.

Which is why we’re pleased to tell you that Fantastical is coming to your iPhone.

Ending Soon! Stop Email Insanity With SaneBox [Deals]

By

CoM - Sanebox

As you read this, I’m sure you’re not thinking about all of the email you have to deal with. I’m not just talking about the email that you left behind for follow-up the last time you checked…I’m also talking about all of the email you have received since you last checked.

Knowing all of this, can your mind really be on what you’re doing right now? Better still, can you keep your mind on the important stuff that goes on outside of your email inbox knowing that you’re going to have to deal with both the important and unimportant messages that will arrive in your inbox on a non-stop basis?

It’s kind of insane, isn’t it?

This is where the latest Cult of Mac Deals offer comes to the rescue with a one-year lunch box plan for SaneBox for only $69.

By

Screen Shot 2012-11-07 at 5.04.08 PM

Earlier this year, Realmac Software and Impending released Clear, a bold and innovate to-do list app for the iPhone. Despite the seemingly never-ending supply of task managers in the App Store, Clear managed to set itself apart with its unique interface, gestures and clean design.

Fast forward to today, and Realmac Software is bringing Clear to the Mac. How does such a gesture-driven app live and breathe on the desktop? On the Mac, Clear is a fresh and enjoyable way to manage tasks. It’s apps like Clear that show the convergence between iOS and OS X.

Blue Microphones Releases the Spark Digital, Its First Serious, Studio Microphone for The iPad

By

blue-spark-digital

Just like Blue Microphone’s non-digital Spark, the new, Digital Spark microphone has been put together with an armful of we’re-not-playing-around components and features. Things like a beefed-up condenser capsule, a Focus selector that toggles between a low-frequency bias and a detail bias, and an adjustable desk stand with shock mount. But this Spark is built for iPads (or iPhones); though its USB connector means it’ll work just fine with your MacBook Pro, iMac, Sony Vaio, Samsung Galaxy Tab or anything else with a USB input.

Negative Nimbus Updated, Brings iPhone And iPod Support, New Levels

By

NN_ScreenShot_World1_01

We reported on Negative Nimbus a couple of weeks ago, calling it a sweet-natured iPad game with a horribly sad raincloud, the aforementioned Nimbus.

Tomorrow, it’ll be updated to a universal app, which will make it playable on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. You can also unlock a new world that has 8 new additional levels, more comics, new hats, and more achievements, which can only be a good thing.

Apple Store App For iOS Updated, Adds Gift Cards, Passbook, And Siri Features

By

This is seriously the coolest way to buy Apple stuff.
This is seriously the coolest way to buy Apple stuff.

The App Store app is a fantastic thing, letting you walk into an Apple Store, scan a product on the shelf, pay for it with your iTunes account, and walk out. I ordered my iPad mini from the iPhone app this past week, as well. The app has been updated today, adding the ability to buy new gift cards and email them to anyone right from within the app. The gift cards can then be integrated into the new Passbook app in the US.

According to Cult of Mac staff, however, the Passbook functionality is not working yet, and we speculate it may be a server issue.

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, is now also able to help you find prices of and shop for Apple products if you have a Siri-enabled device.

Guide Dirk The Daring Through The Dragon’s Lair On Mac Tomorrow

By

I saw this animation a LOT back in the day.
I saw this animation a LOT back in the day.

The year was 1983. Arcades were the primary way I played video games, unless you count the Magnavox Odyssey pong clone sitting on our TV at home. I didn’t.

I remember stepping into the local arcade, a pocket full of quarters, and seeing this…amazing game. It was like a animated movie! The characters moved fluidly! I stepped forward.

Dragon’s Lair had my entire pocket of quarters within 30 minutes.

Now we can all relive the glory without the quarters via the Mac, as Dragon’s Lair comes out for the Mac platform tomorrow, November 8, 2012 for $9.99.

The FlexiShield Skin For iPad Mini: Good, But It Should Be Cheaper [Review]

By

The FlexiShield Skin has just enough protection at the front for your display.
The FlexiShield Skin has just enough protection at the front for your display.

The FlexiShield Skin from MobileFun is a translucent silicone case for iPad mini that’s designed to offer long-lasting protection, extra grip, and a slender profile that “highlights the form of your iPad mini” rather than spoiling it.

It provides impact and scratch protection to the back of your device, while still allowing you to access all of its buttons, ports, and switches. It costs $16.49, and it’s available in white, purple, and black.

Apple Senior VP Eddy Cue Joins Ferrari’s Board Of Directors

By

appleferrari

Apple’s had dreams of making a car for a long time. Rumors have even floated around that Steve Jobs really wanted to make an iCar and that Apple considered making an iCar before they made the iPhone, but decided against it.

Well, if you can’t make your own car, you might as well team up with one of the most luxurious car companies in the world. In a statement today, Ferrari announced that Eddy Cue, a senior vice president at Apple, will be joining their board of directors.

Surprise: Apple Actually Does Have A Patent On Rectangles With Rounded Corners

By

rectanglepatent

One of my favorite lines used by people defending Samsung during their $1 billion legal beatdown from Apple was the claim that Apple doesn’t have a patent on glass rectangles with rounded corners. “You can’t patent the rectangle,” they would say.

Yeah, well Apple just did. Kind of.

After a review by a patent examiner on Tuesday, the United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded Apple an additional design patent for the iPad’s “ornamental design.” The design feature cited in US Patent D607,286 for a “Portable display device” pretty much appears to be a literal rounded rectangle.

Apple May Have Given Sharp $2 Billion ‘Bailout’ To Keep Screen Supplies Flowing

By

sharpscreenipad

When Apple’s annual capital expediters report for fiscal 2012 was released, it was discovered that Apple spent $10.3 billion when they had only planned to spend about $8 billion. The discrepancy in the huge change from Apple’s original forecast left some wondering what that $2.3 billion went to.

If one analyst is correct, that $2 billion may have gone to Sharp to help bail them out of their financial problems, and keep display supplies flowing for Apple’s products.

AT&T Plans To Spend $14 Billion To Bring LTE For 300 Million People

By

post-200202-image-90adc7c997c01d234c139812bf3e49d2-jpg

AT&T had the fastest 3G network in the country, but when it comes to 4G LTE service, they’ve been way behind Verizon. It looks like AT&T is finally ready to play catchup with Verizon though as they announced this morning that they plan to invest $14 billion into their LTE network over the next three years.

AT&T is calling their investment and LTE expansion plans, “Project Velocity IP,” and is hoping that the investment in the network will drive continued increases in revenues from existing products and services.

Drift HD Ghost Looks Like One of The Most Fully-Loaded Action Cams We’ve Seen

By

drift-hd-ghost

Unlike some of the other newcomers to the quickly growing action-cam party (Sony, we’re looking at you), Drift has been making robust little video cameras for a while now. Their latest incarnation is the 1080p Drift HD Ghost, which looks like it’s been packaged with everything but the kitchen sink — including a large built-in screen and a wearable remote.

Apple’s Suppliers Are Already Working On The Retina Display For iPad Mini 2 [Rumor]

By

iPad-mini-display-apart
Apple won't make us wait too long for a Retina iPad mini 2.

The iPad mini is an incredible tablet, and I haven’t been able to put mine down since it was delivered last Friday. I love how thin and light it is, and that it will run all of my existing iPad apps right out of the box. There’s no ignoring the fact that it doesn’t have a Retina display, however.

The iPad mini’s low-resolution display sticks out like a sore thumb the second it lights up. It’s not awful — it’s still better than the iPad 2’s display, and after a few days you stop worrying about it. But it’s noticeably worse than the Retina iPad’s display.

If this has been stopping you from picking up the iPad mini, then you might want to hold onto your cash until its successor arrives next year. According to sources in Apple’s supply chain, the Cupertino company is already working on its 2048 x 1536 Retina display.

Tally Ho! Counting App For iPhone From Developer Of Drafts

By

cult_logo_featured_image_missing_default1920x1080

I’ll be honest. The real reason I’m writing this post is because I get to say “Tally Ho!” in the headline, and to tell you an interesting fact about place names and exclamation points. But more on that in a second.

Tally is a new iPhone app from Agile Tortoise, the developer behind the most essential iOS app there is: Drafts. Tally is a very simple app designed to do one thing: count.

Foxconn CEO: We Can’t Keep Up With iPhone 5 Demand

By

hi-852-foxconn-workers
Foxconn simply cannot keep up with iPhone demand.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou has revealed that dealing with Apple’s overwhelming iPhone demand is not an easy task. The company is still struggling to catch up with the strong sales the iPhone has been enjoying, but Gou would not confirm whether the group’s other unit, Foxconn International Holdings, has taken on some of its production.
