Apple is, rightfully, focused on accessibility issues with its products — and today it gave us one more reminder of that.
Working with other industry leaders, including Microsoft, Apple has helped develop a new standard for braille displays. It was announced by the non-profit USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) with the goal of making it easier for blind users to use computers.

We rely on our Lightning cables to keep our devices charged and synced, but we can’t count on them to last very long. So how do you get a Lightning cable that won’t fray? One way is to reinforce it with steel chainmail armor.

Telegram has rolled out updates, you’re just not getting them. Photo: Telegram
Telegram’s efforts to protect user privacy have seen its secure messaging service banned in Russia, where Apple has been ordered to remove the app from its App Store within 30 days. But it seems the impact of those demands is being felt worldwide.
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has revealed that Apple hasn’t approved a Telegram update in any country since Russian authorities started piling the pressure on.

A digital artist created a device that combines the best features of a MacBook and iPad Pro. The 2-in-1 can be used as giant tablet, folded into a clamshell laptop, or even configured into a smaller tablet or desktop.
The first phones with flexible screens are expected to be released this fall, and this device shows what might be possible when foldable displays go mainstream.

Sometimes your phone won't connect to a perfectly good network. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
Do you ever pull your iPhone out of your pocket and see the dreaded E for EDGE? Or even (gasp) GPRS? Or perhaps you’re so spoiled that you get uncomfortable when you’re on 3G instead of LTE or 4G. Worse, you look over to a friend’s iPhone, which uses the same network you do, and they have a proper, speedy hookup, while you;re stuck with a slow connection.
What’s going on? Is there a way to force your iPhone (or iPad) to use a better available connection? There certainly is.

Your iPhone carries a lot of information, but it’s not a locked box. Eventually, for one reason or another, you’ll go to find a text thread or photo that you’re sure you kept, except you didn’t. Well, with the right tool, almost any data that was lost can be found again.

WhatsApp plans to take on Apple Pay Cash with a peer-to-peer payments system of its own.
Powered by UPI, the service is expected to rollout to users as early as next week following a beta test. It could launch with just three banking partners initially as WhatsApp races to compete with rival payments services.
Now all you need is a second HomePod. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Almost a year after it was first announced, AirPlay 2 is finally ready and running on iOS. AirPlay 2 lets you stream audio from your iPad or iPhone to more than one speaker at the same time (something that has always been possible on the Mac). And if you use AirPlay 2 with a pair of HomePod speakers, you can choose to treat them as the left and right speakers of a stereo pair, giving a much bigger-sounding audio picture.

It’s only been a day since Apple released iOS 11.4 to the public, but the first beta for its successor is already here.
No, we’re not talking about iOS 12 beta 1 — which should come out next week. Apple dropped a surprise batch of beta builds today in the form of iOS 11.4.1, macOS 10.13.6, tvOS 11.4.1 and watchOS 4.3.1. The updates bring a bunch of bug fixes to all of Apple’s platform ahead of the grand unveiling of iOS 12 and macOS 10.14 at WWDC 2018.

We’ve seen some incredibly sketchy Apple “leaks” over the years. This one, a photo that purportedly shows an iOS 12 upgrade ready to be installed on an iPhone, is up there with the most ludicrous.
Here’s what the image claims we’ll get when Apple’s big update rolls out this fall.
Two HomePods are better than one. Photo: Erfon Elijah/Cult of Mac
Stereo-pairing has been one of the most anticipated HomePod features and now that it has finally arrived, it was definitely worth the wait.
HomePod owners can now pair two or more speakers together to create rich stereo soundscapes in their house for an audio experience that’s unlike any other. CultCast producer Erfon Elijah went ears-on with the new feature and says his finely tuned ears were tingling with delight from the sounds HomePod can blast out. The 360-degree sound is so enveloping that it’s hard to tell where it’s even coming from.

There are tons of social networks to choose from. Some help you stay up-to-date with news, while others are focused on friends or family. Instagram is the social network for seeing the world and keeping up with your interests through images. Unlike Twitter or Facebook, Instagram lets photos do the majority of the talking.

Well, this is one we've not heard before! Photo: Jim Merithew/Cult of Mac
We’ve heard about Apple Watches saving people’s lives before, but here’s a new one: an iPhone which helped someone escape a forced marriage.
That’s what happened to a U.K. citizen, whose parents effectively kidnapped her by tricking her into vacationing in Bangladesh for what would have been an enforced marriage to her cousin. The incident took place in July 2016, although it only recently came to light due to a court case.
Apple will need to be patient to succeed. Screenshot: Recode
Apple is “dabbling” in TV, according to 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch. In an on-stage interview at Recode‘s Code Conference, Murdoch touched on the subject of tech companies moving into original content creation and distribution.
His message? That Apple will need to be patient and willing to fail if it’s going to have a hope of succeeding.

2017 is on track to be a great year for Apple. Photo: Apple
Apple could sell a massive 350 million iPhones in the next 12 to 18 months, GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives writes in a new note to clients.
Despite a record March quarter, Ives claims that fans have nonetheless been reluctant to buy the most recent iPhone models, resulting in a possible wave of would-be upgraders waiting for the 2018-era-iPhones.
