YouTube is improving the experience for its Premium subscribers by adding more perks for them. Going forward, YouTube Premium users can enjoy faster playback speeds on mobile and stream high-quality audio.
On iPhone, you can now play YouTube Shorts in picture-in-picture. Smart Downloads is also expanding to include support for Shorts.
YouTube Premium adds PiP support for Shorts
YouTube lets users enable experimental features, but they can only have one active at a time. This is changing now, as YouTube Premium subscribers can now have multiple experimental features enabled at once.
Besides this, YouTube is rolling out several new Premium perks. And they come without any price hike. First, Premium users can stream audio in music videos at a higher 256kbps quality for greater detail.
Second, the YouTube viewing experience on the web is about to get better with “Jump Ahead.” It will enable you to skip the irrelevant parts of a video. Until now, this feature was only available on mobile. Third, YouTube is introducing faster playback speeds on mobile, enabling you to watch a video at up to 4x speeds.
The last two additions will benefit YouTube Premium subscribers with an iPhone. They can now enjoy Shorts in picture-in-picture, enabling them to text their friends or browse the web while doing so. Lastly, the Smart Downloads feature is expanding to include Shorts on iPhones. So, you can set the YouTube app to download recommended Shorts for offline viewing.
The last major YouTube Premium upgrade arrived in April 2023, adding SharePlay support.
YouTube Premium added to Google One
For the first time, Google is offering YouTube Premium as part of the Google One tier. In the US, you can subscribe to the 2TB Google One plan and receive YouTube Premium at a discounted price.
Google also announced that it will expand its conversational AI tool to iOS “soon.” This will enable you to ask the tool questions related to the video you are watching.
