vWallpaper 2 Update Brings Live Wallpapers To Jailbroken iOS 5 Devices

The popular jailbreak tweak vWallpaper has received a pretty significant update that finally brings live home screen wallpapers to iPhones running Apple’s latest iOS 5 software.

vWallpaper version 2 is the “go-to package” for adding live wallpapers to your iPhone, according to AppAdvice, and it’s even better now that it works under iOS 5. Live wallpapers are a feature Apple is yet to officially introduce to its mobile operating system, but it’s incredibly popular with users of Google’s Android OS.

Despite hitting version 2, vWallpaper is still in its beta stage, AppAdvice says, and could still kill your battery:

… because of the nature of the tweak, users have often found that enabling live wallpapers on their iPhone has resulted in dramatically decreased battery life.

It’s unclear whether version 2 of the tweak is any better for your battery life, so you may want to keep an eye on it if you’re using it for the first time. The free tweak is available to download now from Cydia.

What about video ringtones? I want video ringtones, that’s why I installed vWallpaper back when I was on iOS 4.

I installed vWallpaper 2 on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5, and can’t seem to find the vRingtone function.

great – now Apple’s hack devs are copying Android too

  3. Mickinator says:

This would be a lot more interesting if there was a video clip of the app in action.

  4. Brandon Dillon says:

Because Android was the first to have animated wallpapers right?

Fandroids seem to think that they are the first at everything. Your OS has viruses/malware/keyloggers. You seem to have copied that pretty accurately from Microsoft.

  5. ddevito says:

Um, no. No viruses here. It’s like any other piece of software: it’s up to the user to decide to install it or not. I don’t need handholding from my phone manufacturer thanks.

And yes Android had live wallpaper first “officially”. iOS jailbreakers make me laugh. Android has more flexibility out of the box then anything Cydia can bring you iSheep.

Look at iOS 5 – all new core features were copied from Android, especially notifications and yet they still weren’t done right.

They stick a beta voice recignotion app on a phone and call it an upgrade. Pathetic.

  6. ddevito says:

Wake up iSheep. Apple says you shouldn’t have live wallpaper. Listen to your masters iSlaves.

  7. KillianBell says:

I did try to find one on YouTube, but most of them are far too long and uninformative. Sorry!

  8. Ronald Stepp says:

Has anybody ever hacked an iphone to run android on it?

  9. nthnm says:

My LG or Motorola phone from 7 or so years ago had animated wallpapers. Maybe not as nicely done as they are today, but they’ve definitely been around since before iOS or Android.

  10. ddevito says:

it’s been done but never really completed.

  11. ddevito says:

okay, well if you’re going to compare apples to oranges then yes that’s true.

  12. Jerry Fabula says:

so what are you doing here? go find an android place…Pathetic??

  13. ddevito says:

it’s an article that discusses something that rips off Android.

  14. ZeeKazim says:

I don’t really care for live wallpapers, & I personally avoid using them on my other android device. IMO, I think they’re nice to look at but not really worth draining the battery over something I wouldn’t really enjoy!
From your recent replies t seems to me that you’re one big fandroid/droidslave.. Wake up, buddy!

  15. Srose428 says:

“It’s like any other piece of software” you forgot the “that sucks” part.  Android is fragmented, inferior, dirty, and poorly implemented.  Brandon’s right android is the new Microsoft.  And really “Apple’s Hack Dev’s are coping Android too” they are Hack Developers.  And who else is copying android?  Dude check yo self.

  16. ddevito says:

There’s one major difference between MSFT and (Google) Android: AOSP.

The work those folks are doing is mindblowing and changing the mobile landscape.

And the “other” devs copying Android are Apple themselves:

    -notifications
    -wireless sync
    -twitter integration
    -cut copy and paste
    -tabbed browsing
    -split keyboard
    -open apps in the lockscreen
    -OTA updates

And they copied iMessage from BBM.

  17. Srose428 says:

Mind blowing and progressive is Apple’s antenna switching tech in the 4S, not that list of crap that is just the next progression in line to come out.  I will give you iMessage is a direct rip off BBM.  The rest never belonged to Android and has existsed in OSX for some time now.  Growl Notifications, Time Capsule tech, Really Twitter Integration? Etc Etc Etc.  Android would not have a Lock Screen nor the slide to unlock or any other type of unlocking feature if Apple had not pioneered it with iOS 1.0.

I have no idea what AOSP is….

  18. ddevito says:

So you think Slide to Unlock was started by Apple? Have you ever sat in a men’s room stall?  :p

That antenna switching (battery draining) feature is a direct response from the antennagate scandal of the iPhone 4.

AOSP = Android Open Source Project.

And growl isn’t close to notifications. I know, I own a Mac and have growl. The drop down drawer of notifications was a direct rip off of Android.

  19. Brandon Dillon says:

I strongly believe in the phrase of “… well Apple did it right”, in reference to not releasing a feature until it’s optimized for the hardware/experience.

This is what I find hilarious, and gives justice to the above. When people think of these features, they aren’t thinking about Android. They think of Apple. Why? Because Apple did it right. Why again? Because they don’t just consume and regurgitate a half-baked and decide “oh well we will just fix it later with an update, because we need to beat the competition to the punch”.

As for your list of features, I don’t think Android invented a single one of those, and they for fucking sure won’t be thought of when someone mentions them.

  20. Brandon Dillon says:

Also, Apple, as a company whole, has a genuine care for the quality and experience of using the products they create, and it shows. Google, if they have that same drive, it doesn’t show. The people at the helm of Apple are all individual perfectionists. Steve was a visionary, and I honestly believe Tim is as well. Can you say the same for Eric Schmidt? If he is, I can’t see it. With the Apple VP’s, quality and care just resonates off of them. Schmidt just seems like another suit.

  21. ddevito says:

Google is a software services company iGenius, they don’t sell products.

  22. Cold_dead_fingers says:

It’s easy to say you did everything first when they add 1000 things per update. The problem is, the more ou add, the worse the quality control and if there’s something that is factual about Android; it’s quality control is almost nonexistent. Ice Cream Sandwich was the first major OS build with some form of quality control and even that face recognition didn’t work as well as anything on iOS.

  23. ddevito says:

I wouldn’t mind having Paris Hilton in my Ferrari

  24. AvoidDroid says:

ddevito has no credibility among his peers so he shows up here to stir up mess.
    Best to just ignore him.
