UK Advertising Group: Shut Up, Samsung! The iPhone 4 Is The Thinnest Smartphone Around

Samsung’s bragged for awhile that the Samsung Galaxy II is the thinnest smartphone around, but as the Korean gadget maker so often is, they’re full of it… and now the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority is talking smack, saying that the world’s thinnest smartphone isn’t an Android device… it’s the iPhone 4.

Techcrunch reports:

The ASA ruled that since the iPhone’s thickest point is thinner than the Galaxy S II’s thickest, Apple has the right to continue claiming the title. Samsung likely isn’t too pleased — save for a single thick bit, their GSII is mostly thinner, and Apple gets to maintain their positioning (in the UK at least) as purveyors of slim, sleek design.

In other words, Samsung’s cheating: their smartphone is thinner at its thinnest, but there’s a thick chunk that makes the overall footprint thicker than the iPhone 4.

No surprises here, really. The iPhone 4 is goofily thin… and even if Samsung manages to beat it in thinness with a future device, all signs point to the iPhone 5 immediately reclaiming the weight loss crown.

Samsung has no shame even after so many bitchslaps from Apple!

For instance, their current TV ads for Galaxy Tab 10.1 in US, uses the iPad slogan “Thinner, lighter, faster”. Lighter? Lighter than what? The previous Galaxy Tab is actually lighter than 10.1, so I don’t get it. Are they stealing iPad 2’s slogan without even understanding what it means?

    What a waste of time

  3. Chris says:

however, the galaxy S2 feels thinner, because the thick part is not where you hold it. Only sucks in landscape view

  4. Fab1Man says:

No they’re referring to the iPad 2 as being thinner, faster and lighter.

  5. russhughes says:

they should just say “better, better, better”

Arrrrrr Um. The galaxy S2 is thinner at its thickest point then the iPhone4….

The galaxy tab is thinner over 100% of its chassis…wtf is this article on about?

I just sat my s2 next to my iphone 4 and I can see over the entire S2 and see the top of the iphone 4……

Not only that but the s2 isn’t the thinnest android phone?

  7. O Parth says:

s2 on flat surface will be diagonal, so it looks thinner. Thickest part of s2 is thicker than iphone 4 thickest part

  8. Harold Cho says:

Yes, your phone is .1 millimeter thinner. Big F deal. Please improve your batteries and stop making them thinner.

I’ll have to say that the SGSII is “thinner”

But then we can go into debate how thin or thick the MBA is………

But what’s ironic is that all the people I know who have iPhone 4 cases have these big-ass casses which make their phone seem extremely clunky.  So they take the thinnest phone out there and put it in a case which makes it like the thickest phone out there.  xD

    Oh well.
