It’s July 4, a.k.a. Independence Day — and to mark the occasion Apple CEO Tim Cook has taken to Twitter with a message wishing everyone a happy holiday.

“Wishing everyone a happy #Independence Day!” he writes. He also includes a quote from former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, taken from a speech Roosevelt gave in Washington D.C. on April 21, 1938: “Remember always that all of us … are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.”

Since taking over as Apple CEO, Tim Cook has been outspoken about social issues, most recently including immigration. Cook has strongly opposed President Trump’s executive order, limiting travel for nationals of several majority-Muslim countries.

He started by sending an open letter to Apple employees, making clear that those who have been affected by the policy can draw on the expertise of the company’s HR, legal and security teams. He also joined other tech companies, including Alphabet, Facebook and Uber, in penning a letter opposing the controversial travel ban.

In a previous Wall Street Journal interview, Cook echoed the comments he quoted in today’s tweet by saying that: “More than any country in the world, this country is strong because of our immigrant background and our capacity and ability as people to welcome people from all kinds of backgrounds. That’s what makes us special. We ought to pause and really think deeply through that.”

From us all at Cult of Mac, we hope everyone celebrating has a great Independence Day!

Thanks Tim I really don’t think I would made through the holiday without your infinite wisdom and lectures. Looking to lay off American workers and bring in cheap foreign labor because this is the feeling I am getting here?
