That unassuming picture of sushi above? Very likely taken by an iPhone 5. Too bad the plate’s not shinier, or we might be able to Blade Runner ourselves an actual image of the phone.
How does anyone figure that that image came the belly of the next iPhone? Simple: the EXIF data of the photo says it was taken with an iPhone 4, but the image itself was taken with an 8MP camera prior to cropping… significantly higher than the iPhone 4’s stock 5MP camera.
PocketNow reports:
This (very attractive) photo claims to have been taken by an iPhone 4, but the rest of its EXIF data tells a different story: although the image has been cropped to 2235×2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original picture was a much larger 3264×2448 — or just shy of eight megapixels. What’s more, the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4’s actual 3.85mm f/2.8.
Of course, it’s also possible this was taken by an iPhone 4S, which is the redesigned iPhone 4 model that we also anticipate to debut next month. Or it could have been taken by an iPhone 4 prototype with a beefier 8MP camera module. Who knows? All I can say for sure is that sushi looks delicious.

Hype Machine, engage.Â
A sad day for news indeed. This really is not newsworthy at all.
Compressed to that size, you really can’t tell the difference that it’s an alleged photo from an iPhone with a better sensor, more MP.
My iPhone 4 could easily take that shot.
Or it could have been taken with an 8MP Canon Camera and an EXIF tag editor.
Why am I not impressed?
Yeah, something smells fishy.

This is yet another John Brownlee exclusively “thought” article.Â
Picture, or it didn’t happen.
Looks like it’s mostly sashimi not sushi. :)
The evidence isn’t in the actual photo image but in the metadata. But as someone pointed out, the metadata can be faked if you know what you are doing
or the EXIF data was simply modified !
I got this from the EXIF Data. Looks like 5MP to me

Nice pun on that. :)
I like that the only sure thing about this photo, is that the sushi looks good
look again… there is not a single piece of sashimi… you can see the rice underneath
