This Is The Best And Most Realistic Take On What The iPhone 5 Will Look Like Yet [Gallery]

By

MacRumors had a really bright idea: why not take those iPhone 5 case designs that have been knocking about and hire a design studio to turn them into rendered mockups?

The results are stunning, and our best look yet at what Apple might have envisioned for the iPhone 5: a slimmer design, a larger display and a wider capacitive home button. I’m not personally so sure about the iPod Touch like silver back, but even so, these are just great…

    Realist !

  2. Paul Flahan says:

    Where’s the vibrate switch?

  3. David Berezin says:

I have to say, I think that (almost) edge-to-edge screen is kind of ugly.  It just doesn’t look right. Almost out of proportion.

Whats whit the huge home button on every iphone 5 model

  5. quietstorms says:

ThisIsMyNext was the first to say that the iPhone would be thicker at one end and thinner at the other. This is what these new cases show. They also reported that there would be an elongated home button for gestures and a larger screen (which this mockup shows).

I think it looks kind of slick, especially the white. I think you just may be too used to the proportion of previous iPhones.

  7. Matthew Snider says:

I honestly like it, but don’t know if I like it more than the iPhone 4 design. Also to have a screen that big means the phone is huge.

Not a fan of the larger phones out there already, thunderbolt etc. Too big in my mind.

  8. pete reed says:

I’m fairly certain the back will look like that. The front however. Not so much. The really thin bit at the top just makes the whole thing look out of proportion. Not very apple

  9. Theyseeyoutrollin says:

i really hope the iPhone 5 doesn’t have a home button made for gestures… IMO i would find that annoying. I would probably accidentally press the home button instead of performing the gesture, thus ending in a: FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

  10. Aj Tk427 says:

Hope the screen enlargement rumors are true. I was looking at the Galaxy SII the other day and boy does it have a pretty screen. The iPhone screen is looking mighty tiny next to the latest gen phones.
I totally agree that there is a sweet spot to the size, I’m not a fan of the giant screens.

This is a very nice mock up, also excited if the gesture based home button is a reality too.

  11. Ian says:

what planet are you on…. does the Phone signal all of a sudden miraculously penetrate metal?

It wont have an entirely metal back… if it were possible it would have been done already.

  12. Pawe? Komarnicki says:

    OMFG it’s ugly like hell!

  13. wilkerlucio says:

damn ugly, I hope it to be a lot different from that

  14. prof_peabody says:

I would still bet money on the fact that this is actually the next iPod touch and not the iPhone 5.

Also, none of the cases we’ve seen actually cover the front, so the different screen and different home button is really still just based on random rumours at this stage and not on the cases themselves.  Also too, where is the antenna?    Pretty pictures though. Nicely done.

  15. prof_peabody says:

Those guys have really jumped the shark.  I almost never go there anymore.

  16. Tyler Ramsay says:

    Huge HOme button is dumb

  17. poppa1138 says:

3GS design again, I thought Apple was ditching the big  home button for a touch screen home button?

  18. Jordan Clay says:

I don’t think we will ever see thunderbolt on an iPhone.  what is the point of it since we now have OTA synching and iCloud backup.  Why pay for thunderbolt when 99.99% of the population will never use it. I think that was rumor that was just that

Edit…yeah..I read that wrong….stupid phone w/ the same name.

  19. Michael Klopf says:

He meant the phone called Thunderbolt.

  20. Jordan Clay says:

I would love to see it for limited use….i.e. switching tabs in Safari, fast app switching, getting to the widgets.  But I would think it would be a hands off to developers, Apple only button

  21. David Alexander Harrison says:

    One word:  Fugly.

I’m sure the iPhone 5 won’t look like this; I’m sure *no* phone from *any* manufacturer would look like this, & we all know how Apple prides itself on giving (at least) as much importance to form as function…

  22. aramishero says:

This is absolutely UGLY design I ever seen…

  23. Stephen Jesser says:

    I’d tap that!

  24. DrM47145 says:

…indeed. I’ve also posted that very same comment a couple of times. It just doesn’t look right.

  25. Hugo Horta Ruivinho says:

If the back is aluminum.. i’ll buy it, but if it’s the same chromed back as in the iPod Tiuch.. easy pass, i don’t like chromed finger magnets

  26. Quynh Nguyen says:

I don’t know that that’s a “iPod silver” back.. It looks more like the aluminum back of the original iPhone to me…

  27. DevMyi says:

I think it would look similar however this dosen’t look so apple like its missing something

  28. knock knock says:

i can’t believe how many people think this mock up is ugly and yet think the iPhone 4 is superior in design? i’ll admit i don’t like the extra large home button in the mock up but at least it doesn’t have the eye sore antenna running around the perimeter of the phone. and please, stop making phones out of glass.

  29. Darthjr says:

Gosh I can’t wait. Does anyone have a time machine?

  30. Kyle Edmonds says:

Press both volume up / down buttons at the same time for vibrate toggle….?

  31. Kyle Edmonds says:

The iPod touch WOULD be missing a silent / vibrate switch… Good eye!
