Just in case you thought these guys mistook the line outside of London’s Regent Street Apple Store for a line for Justin Bieber tickets, guess what? The UK’s sold out of iPad 2s.
The Daily Mail is reporting that although the iPad 2 officially launched in the UK on March 25th, all available iPad 2s had been sold within 24 hours.
It’s hard to say how many iPads Apple sold internationally, as they still haven’t released domestic numbers yet. Analysts estimate that Apple could have sold between 500,000 to 1,000,000 iPad 2s so far, with that number constrained not by demand, but by supply.
It seems that the exact same situation is now unfolding across the globe. The iPad 2? It’s an international sensation.

They were still available at John Lewis online store earlier today, Monday 28th March 2011, but have since sold out.
Albion Computers on the Strand still had 16GB models in stock this morning.
Why does CoM always use Daily Mail as its source for UK Apple news? This is the paper that reported that the iPhone 4 was being recalled, because one of their technology “journalists” was following a parody Steve Jobs twitter account thinking it was the real thing.
Using any newspaper as a source for information isn’t exactly reliable, but Daily Mail hacks wouldn’t know the truth if it was branded on their foreheads. And they’d care even less.
John Lewis went live with iPad 2 on the 25th at 5PM. It sold out by 17.03. They had 10 of each kind. I wish I’d bought two. Interestingly the delivery time was 3 to 5 days. Whereas if you’d ordered it from Apple at the same time of day you were looking at 3 to 5 weeks. Another commenter mentioned JLP had iPad 2 this morning, but only breifly I guess.
I did have to call them up and confirm the order though, which is a bit odd. Just being extra careful they said.

I heard Wallmart has almost sold out of the Galaxy Tabs they got in last fall… in fact I think there are only 2 of the 3 they got in left!

I had real problems on the Apple website when it went live. It took ~40 attempts from 1am to get through the entire purchasing process (completed 2:31am). Then shipping was still 2-3 weeks, with delivery another 2 weeks after (talk about a slow boat from China).

A friend and I bought the last one in Westfield Shopping Center yesterday evening from the Micro Anvika store. A previous customer had declined to buy it, preferring a white iPad instead of the black. Even the Apple Store employee was a little incredulous when we walked back in (having tried there, Carphone Warehouse, O2, 3, Vodaphone, Orange and O2 stores) and asked if we could get it activated.
