The iPod Touch Will Go Albino This Year… But Don’t Expect Other Big Changes

We’ve heard before that while Apple will steroid charge the iPhone 5 in October, the iPod Touch isn’t likely to see a serious update. After all, short of doubling its storage space (an idea obviated by iCloud) or 3G support (which would make the iPod Touch more expensive and — yep — about as thick as an iPhone), the iPod Touch is pretty much a perfect product for the money. What more can you do to it?

The answer: not much. You just make it white and pretty much call it a day.

MacRumors reports:

MacRumors has received information indicating that the next iPod touch revision will be a very minor change, with the primary addition being the introduction of a new white model. Only minor changes are expected for the existing hardware, with the addition of an oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor seemingly being the main differences. Otherwise, we expect the models to be nearly identical to the current fourth-generation iPod touch model.

So white and more fingerprint resistant. Not bad, but even though iCloud makes some of this a little less relevant, I’m still hoping we’ll see a 128GB Touch this year.

Seems lack of competition makes Apple lazy.

I love my fourth generation iPod Touch, but I really wish the camera was better. I would think that’s a pretty easy upgrade to do. They obviously don’t want the Tocuh to have the same camera as the iPhone, but if the iPhone camera is going to 8mp, why can’t the Touch go to 5mp.

3G iPod is a game change.

I thought the biggest impediment to a better phone is device thickness.
The biggest complaint about the Touch is glass breakage. If they are upgrading the glass my sons will be wanting the new Touch.

I’ve been saying this for over a year now. Doesn’t make sense why it’s not available. It would be a true internet phone.

3G iPod won’t happen. Sorry to burst your bubble.

C’mon Apple! At least give us the buffed aluminum (like the iPad and forthcoming iPhone 5) instead of that mirrored scratch magnet we’ve been stuck with for so long…

I would like a A5 chip and a much, much inproved camera.

Like there’s a space issue as well – the current iPhone 4 camera wouldn’t even fit in the iPT’s case. http://goo.gl/ngLx5

A5 chip, 5mp camera, and 512mb of ram would get me to upgrade from my ipt4. Anything less is a no go. And, I don’t give a shit about white…..pfffft!

Apple doesn’t want the Touch to cannibalize its iPhone sales so it will always remain the retarded cousin.
