Stick starring Owen Wilson on Apple TV+
It’s a cliche, but if you like Ted Lasso you should try Stick.

Stick continues to stick near the tops of the streaming TV popularity charts as the sports comedy wraps up its first season. The Apple TV+ series starring Owen Wilson kept its audience since the premiere in June.

It maintains AppleTV’s long streak of at least one series or film among the top 10 most popular.

Apple succeeds with sports comedies again with Stick

Ted Lasso, a comedy about a soccer coach with a heart of gold, put Apple TV+ on the map years ago. And now the streaming service saw lightning strike twice with Stick, another feel-good comedy with a sports theme.

In the series, Owen Wilson plays an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career went off the rails decades ago. After his life gets even worse — his marriage fails and he’s fired from his job at a sporting goods store — the ex-pro bets his future on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom.

That might sound like a drama, but Apple calls it “a heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships.”

Maybe it’s Wilson’s star power, maybe it’s the premise, but the series got off to a strong start on June 4, and kept the momentum going throughout the summer. Movie and TV search engine JustWatch publishes a weekly ratings list of the 10 most popular series in the U.S. on streaming services, and Stick sits at No. 7 for the week of July 21 through July 27 (see chart).

Stick season 1 ratings
A ratings service says Stick is one of the most popular streaming series for another week.

Ratings estimates from companies like JustWatch are necessary because streaming services rarely reveal how many people tune in to their offerings.

The all episodes of Stick season 1 are ready to enjoy now. Binge watching is now an option.

Stick season 2 gets a greenight from Apple TV+

Consistent popularity surely contributed to  Apple TV+ greenlighting Stick season 2 in July.

“I think we all had a great time making it,” said Owen Wilson. “It’s really nice to see the show connecting with people and to know that we get a chance to continue the story!”

The hits keep coming from Apple TV+

Stick is far from the only hit series to come from Apple TV+ in 2025. Both Your Friends & Neighbors and Murderbot stayed popular week after week in spring and summer. And before that, there was the phenomena of Severance.

Streaming all these, plus much more, come with a subscription to Apple TV+. The service is $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.

And Apple’s streaming video service also includes a library of drama, comedies, musicals, children’s shows, nature documentaries, etc.
