Spotify Wants Devs To Bake Streaming Audio Into Their Apps With New Tool

Spotify hasn’t even bothered with a native iPad app yet, but with their latest move, it looks like they might never have to: they are giving devs the tools to embed Spotify music streaming into their own apps.

Called the Spotify Embedded Player linspotify 9, the API will allow devs to bake Spotify into their apps.

I suppose a dev could use these APIs to build their own alternative Spotify client, but more likely, it’ll be used for less adventurous things. For example, next time you load up a racing game, maybe one of the channels in your virtual car will be your Spotify favorites’ list.

Seems pretty cool, but I’m really just keeping my fingers crossed that this is powerful enough for someone to finally do that native iPad app.

Looked pretty cool until I saw that it was for non-commercial use.

Commercial use is fine, but need to talk to Spotify’s partner team first (http://www.spotify.com/uk/work
