The meteoric rise and fall of the co-working space startup WeWork is set to be turned into a show for Apple TV+, according to Variety.
Apple tapped Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello to develop a limited series based on the six-part Wondery podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork. The last episode of the series was just published this week but Apple is wasting no time trying to come out with the first movie or series based on the disastrous startup.
The series will reportedly focus on the rise and fall from grace of the venture that once had a value of almost $50 billion. After revelations of mismanagement by company co-founder Adam Neumann, the company’s value plummet to around $5 billion in October 2019.
World of WeWork takes center stage
Eisenberg, who just inked a multiyear deal with Apple in January, will serve as co-creator and showrunner. He’s coming fresh off the success of Little America, one of the most well-reviewed shows on Apple TV+.
There are two other WeWork projects currently in the works. Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content are making a TV series based on the upcoming book about WeWork from The Wall Street Journal reporters Eliot Brown and Maureen Farrell. Nicholas Braun, who currently plays Gregg on the HBO show Succession, has already been tapped to star as WeWork co-founder Neumann on that show.
Universal is also making a movie about WeWork, with The Big Short screenwriter Charles Randolph set to adapt Katrina Brooker’s upcoming WeWork book for the big screen.
