Seems like just yesterday that the Swoosh introduced its Nike+ iPod kit to the delight of iPod-toting runners everywhere. It wasn’t yesterday though, it was five years ago (and one week). To celebrate, Nike has been giving away free copies of its Nike+ app (regularly $2) at the App Store. The app uses the iPhone’s GPS and MotionX technology — the same tech found in Jawbone’s stunning new Era Bluetooth headset, btw — to track your run (the GPS works well outdoors, the MotionX tech takes over where GPS signals are weak). And then there’re all the great motivational features and post-run sharing options.
Better make a dash if you want a copy, though — it’ll probably revert back to $2 soon.

Where’s the deeply integrated and detailed Yoga training app, that’s what I’d like to know.
Running isn’t even very good for you but it has all these custom apps, simply because Nike sells running shoes.
Yeah cause yoga is better for you than running (physical activity vs putting your leg behind your head)
It’s true though. Look it up. Yoga is far better exercise for you than running.
Also, plain old walking gives you 100% of the benefits of running but eliminates all the negatives (strains, stress injuries, skin stretching, etc., so even walking is better for you than running.

Thanks CoM! I grabbed Nike+ and like it. I used it this evening in conjunction with my current app “Couch to 10K” (train up for a road race), and they complement each other nicely. The “Couch to 10K” app gives me the coaching I need for timing intervals and so on, but does not give the nice verbal cues about what mile marker I’ve crossed and my speed so far like Nike+. One oddity is that the Couch app needs to be in foreground for me and Nike+ in background for them to cooperate on the voice feedback.
got this already with my ipod, is it meant to be like that?
Although I COULD take the bait and argue back and forth about your rather absolute position on this, I won’t. Instead, I will point out that neither Nike nor Apple are in business for you. They’re in business to make money. Nike doesn’t make a yoga shoe, they make running shoes. And in a sedentary society like ours, getting OFF THE COUCH is the part we should be emphasizing anyway. Running, walking and contorting are all better than the alternative.
