Rumor: iPhone 5/iOS 5 Will Arrive on September 7th

By

When can you expect iOS 5 to drop on your iPhone? September’s a given, but the latest rumor gives an exact date that all the ripples of the iCloud will come to your device… along with the iPhone 5.

The International Business Times says that the iPhone 5 will drop on September 7th, and coming along for the ride with it will be iOS 5.

While we wouldn’t count the day out, it’s a sketchy rumor: any weekday in September seems just as likely to us as the 7th. More to the point, some of the logic the article uses to support its supposition is sketchy at best, and we’re particularly puzzled by this breathlessly passive-aggressive paragraph:

iPhone adherents will seethe with anger if their phone doesn’t tally up to the competitions’ range of Android OS-based phones as early as possible. Apple must have found it difficult to contend with the allegation that most of the rumored iPhone 5 features are already on Android OS-based devices.

Anyone out there really think Apple’s finding it “difficult to contend” with Android’s feature set? Anyone out there “seething in anger” over the inferiority over Apple’s mobile products? Didn’t think so.

I don’t even know how to seethe properly!

  2. Mike Mikovsky says:

First rule of seething:  stretch properly.

Article definitely is grasping at straws and they don’t list any sources..

Is there any “Seething for beginners” video-course or any iSeethe iPad app I can check out?

  5. CamilloMiller says:

And, iOS 5 will be available this fall. To my knowledge the 7th of september won’t be fall. But I may be wrong. They may be using the French Revolution Calendar, but even in that case they’d be  wrong.

  6. Bo says:

Of course most iOS5 new features were on Android a long time ago…

  7. poppa1138 says:

so are we at the sucker line for the new iphone5 ?

LOL on the seething comment.  While I may not be seething, I’m definitely very irritated at how quickly Android has surpassed my iPhones in so many areas, and being a loyal Apple fan, I find myself waiting for stuff to come out after hearing from my droid geeks at work that they have had those features for years… A few come to mind…  Voice texting…  Quick and easy access to the camera… Larger screen (which we may still not get with iphone 5!?)… And something we still won’t get due to Apple’s stubbornness (not wanting to pay a royalty for the feature… what 2 cents per iphone is going to kill you??) .. Snoozing calendar alarms… Yes, my Blackberry from 10 years ago had that, but the iPhone still does not… And won’t with iOS5…. And I won’t even go there with all the stuff you still have to jailbreak your iphone for such as bluetooth file transfer..  Showing upcoming appointments on the lock screen… and replying to texts without unlocking the phone (bitesms)… Anyway, enough ranting, the bottom line is that I have a love/hate relationship with my iPhone, so I chose to JB the phone in order to get rid of some of that hatred, but it sure is annoying every time an update comes out I have to wait for the JB and then go through the process of jailbreaking all over again.

I still can’t decide whether to get the iPhone 4 now or wait for iPhone 5

  10. Sydney Nichols says:

WTF are you talking about? I’m not sure what alternate planet you’re living on, but September has long been considered fall, and even if you’re waiting for the fall equinox, it’s not a stretch, as the first day of fall is Sept 22 or so.

  11. tiresius says:

Yeah, in my mind once the school year started, summer was officially over.  Even if the school year started before Labor Day.

  12. brownlee says:

I don’t think the raw indignation here is warranted. Camillo’s right: early September is commonly considered the end of summer.

I recently was given a new work phone.. the Evo 4g… But, I will have to say I dont understand what all of the fandroids always talk about. I can not stand this phone. Yes it has a ton of features, but it doesn’t do a single one of those features well. I have no problem with my iphone, yes there definitely are features that I wish it had, but I find that even though android has those features I dont use them because they suck… Sorry every android fan. but this is just my opinion.

  14. Moores2003 says:

android is like the iPhones little brother, always will be.

  15. aga says:

Cannot wait a couple of months for the iPhone5?

    You will regret it!

  16. Felfac says:

woh take three steps back since when was the IP5 rumoured to be playing catchup with android and since when has been any feel that apples finding it different to compete with android?!

  17. Felfac says:

wait definitely otherwise you’ll be kicking yourself when it doesn’t comes out and you have the last generation

  18. palalonde says:

That would make it one week before Windows 8 Phone. Sounds about right.

  19. Support 18inc says:

    or perhaps iOS’s special cousin.

  20. Support 18inc says:

I don’t think the hundreds of thousands of people waiting outside the Apple store for iPhone on launch day were on the fence about what phone they want to buy. If Windows Phone 7 couldn’t get iPhone users to switch, W8P won’t stand a chance.

  21. CamilloMiller says:

Let me motivate my comment: check out what’s Apple vocabulary for early September launches. If it’s a programmed software update (e.g. Sep. ’08 – push notification introduction, even if they missed the schedule that time) they’ll say September. Not “Summer”, I have to admit, but not “Fall”, either. If they expect to launch in October (e.g. Mac OS X Leopard) they call it, erm, Fall.
Something more: FY 2011 is gonna end around Sep. 27th or 28th. That’s the end of the Summer quarter at Apple’s. The Fall quarter is the first quarter of the FY 2012. The Xmas shopping frenzy quarter, that is. Me, I *suppose* it’s gonna be an iPhone Xmas shopping season this year around.

I’ve been waiting for the 5 to come out; my ATT contract is over and my iPhone 3G is showing its age.  But I have one serious concern about the release of the iPhone5 – whenever it happens.

If you remember, the release of the iPad2 was marred by the organized packs of scalpers who denied legitimate buyers (ie those buying for themselves/family – not to resell) for several weeks.  I had to go to Target to buy my iPad2 after I gave up on having a fair chance at buying one at any of the local Apple stores here.  The Apple stores appeared to be unwilling or unable to do anything about it.

I only hope that the iPhone5 release is handled in a more equitable way – no cash purchases allowed, real (gov’t-issued – drivers’ license or nondriver’s ID) proof of ID and required activation on the spot.

i’ll trade you my droid x and cash for your iphone LOL…

I’ve been waiting for a long time to update for the 5…I certainly hope it’s early September, but I don’t really buy these rumors.

And nobody’s seething. My old 3G 8GB still punches Android in the kidney.

  27. Eelios says:

    iOS will always be superior

  28. Will says:

This is a lie, definately not being released September, more valid rumours are paralel to what Apple are suggesting which will be early October.

  29. Will says:

Will be awesome when it is finished though!

  30. Ashleyxoxo1x1 says:

  31. Jean C. Rivera says:

Faaaaake, I really wanted to see if I had an update but no, just another delay like anyone would do
