Regular users of Reddit’s iOS app and Snapchat can now share content between the two social media networks, both companies announced today.
Reddit has never partnered with another app but said it will expand the feature to other social media apps down the road.
The news comes as Reddit nears the $100 million revenue mark for the first time this year and seeks to attract younger readers to its site to be more competitive, according to Tech Crunch, which broke the story.
The shared content will be strictly limited to Reddit’s “Safe for Work” communities. Reddit first launched its iOS app in 2016.
Reddit’s iOS app now includes a Share icon with a choice of Snapchat options, including stories. The posts will appear with the Reddit logo.
“Reddit empowers discovery and discussion that many Snapchatters love,” Ben Schwerin, vice president of Partnerships at Snap Inc., said in a written statement. “As shared Snaps drive engagement back to Reddit — this helps advance the power of community and connection across both platforms.”
