Classic console game Red Dead Redemption, as well as companion title Undead Nightmare, are now free to play on iPhone and iPad for Netflix subscribers.

Released in 2010 and widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time, Red Dead Redemption mixes Western themes, gunfighter gameplay and a vast open world that players can walk (or gallop) through.

It’s also one of the most emotionally resonant and artistically accomplished titles to ever come out of Rockstar Games. If you own an iPhone or iPad, and subscribe to Netflix, playing Red Dead Redemption should fill up your weekend!

Red Dead Redemption follows John Marston, a former outlaw tasked with bringing three members of his former gang to justice. The game is beloved by both critics and players because it blends a rich, cinematic story with a deeply immersive open world that feels alive at every turn, offering players both emotional depth and unmatched freedom.

The game’s characters are complex and memorable. Its themes of honor, survival and redemption resonate widely. And its detailed depiction of the fading American frontier is both beautiful and haunting.

Rockstar Games’ meticulous craftsmanship — spanning lifelike animations, dynamic weather, nuanced gameplay systems, and a sweeping score — creates an atmosphere that pulls players in for hours. With its combo of action, exploration and storytelling, Red Dead Redemption stands as one of the most evocative and polished experiences in modern gaming.

Undead Nightmare, a zombie-horror companion game, is now built into Red Dead Redemption.

The new version features the complete single-player experiences of both games and also includes bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition.

You can download Red Dead Redemption from the App Store. Playing requires a subscription to Netflix, but there’s no other charge.
