I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

Do you like to enjoy the bounties of your own body while you’re on an audio-only Skype call? Who doesn’t, right? And so you’ve probably also “accidentally” enabled the camera and inadvertently revealed your shame at some point, too. What you need, my pervy, flashing friend, is the iShutter, a $15 strip of steel with a hole in it.

The iShutter is a physical cover for the iSight camera on your MacBook. It uses the magnets already inside the laptop’s lid, sticking a thing metal strip to the top inside lip. The strip has a lozenge-shaped hole in the center, and you just slide it to the side to side/reveal the lens.

It will certainly work, but is a simple strip of steel really worth $15? I use a piece of duct tape in my more paranoid moments, and that works just fine, as well as lending an air of dystopian techno-futures to my setup.

The iShutter is a Kickstarter, which means a long wait until you actually get a unit shipped to you. March 2014 is the expected date (you’ll have to use a piece of duct tape until then, like me), or you can pay a whopping $30 and get it a month earlier, in February.
