You can now subscribe to and pay for AppleCare+ annually in Canada, Australia and Japan. All Macs, plus Apple’s Pro Display XDR and Studio Display monitors, are eligible for this yearly plan.
It is also possible to renew your AppleCare+ subscription every year after that — there’s no need to stop after three years.
AppleCare+ annual plan expands outside of US
Since last year, the Cupertino giant has been offering U.S. customers the option to pay for AppleCare+ annually from the time they purchase their new Mac. In other countries, customers must buy three years of coverage upfront. When this plan ends, they can subscribe to an annual AppleCare+ plan, wherever available. But Apple just changed this policy in Canada, Australia and Japan.
When purchasing a new Mac, Pro Display XDR or Studio Display, you can pay for the AppleCare+ annual plan and remain subscribed to it for as long as you want. There’s no need to pay for the three-year plan right away.
You will end up paying a bit extra over three years, though. But then you won’t have to shell out the money all at once. As MacRumors points out, you pay $99.99 annually for AppleCare+ in Canada for the M2 MacBook Air. In comparison, the three-year plan costs $269 when purchased outright.
Apple also provides an option to pay for AppleCare+ monthly, but it is limited to iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
AppleCare+ covers two accidental damage incidents a year
If you travel a lot with your MacBook, you should consider getting AppleCare+ for it. The protection plan covers two incidents of accidental damage every 12 months. The coverage will give you additional peace of mind if you ever drop your Mac.
You still must pay a (highly discounted) service fee for any repair, though. The amount varies from device to device. For most Macs, Apple charges $129 for a screen replacement and $379 for other damages. You can get AppleCare+ coverage for your Mac within 60 days of purchasing it.
