Noel Fielding probably isn’t the first actor you’d think of to play Dick Turpin, the legendary British highwayman. But that’s what will make his upcoming Apple TV+ series a mix of comedy and action.

The series does not yet have a name.

Noel Fielding playing Dick Turpin?!

Fielding’s version of Dick Turpin will be the least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. He’ll ride the highs and lows of celebrity — and do all he can to escape the clutches of the Thief Taker General.

Noel Fielding is a comedian best known for The Great British Bake Off and The Mighty Boosh. If the other roles in the show — including Dick’s gang of loveable rogues — have been filled, they weren’t announced on Tuesday.

The as-yet untitled series will be directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie, Breeders), and written and created by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis (The Outlaws, The Job Lot).

There is no definite date for when the series staring Noel Fielding will debut on Apple TV+. But Apple does describe it as “coming soon.”

Don’t miss other Apple TV+ comedies

This comedy will join the roster of other funny shows on Apple’s streaming service. That includes the mega-hit Ted Lasso, as well as Mythic Quest, The Afterparty, and Schmigadoon!

And Apple TV+ offers plenty more options, including thrillers, sci-fi epics, documentaries and more. Watching  any of these comes with a $4.99-per-month subscription.
