More details are trickling out about Gameloft’s eagerly awaited first-person-shooter Modern Combat 5: Blackout, which is set to arrive on mobile later this year.

The first big reveal concerns a new unified progression system, which will aim to bring together the single-player campaign and online multiplayer modes by letting experience earned in either contribute toward your character’s overall level. This will also hold true for the game’s weapon mastery system also, meaning that whether you unlock a new weapon in campaign or multiplayer you’ll be able to use it in both.

The second bit of new information is the announcement of soldier classes. In Modern Combat 5: Blackout these classes will each have their own upgrade path and unique set of strengths and perks. There are four dfferent classes in all — including Assault, an aggressive medium-range class which uses assault rifles and pistoles; Heavy, a tough-as-nails close-to-medium range soldier with a penchant for shotguns and RPGs; Recon, whose speed and generally sneakiness means they rule at close range combat; and Sniper, who unsurprisingly is good at rifle-based combat from a distance.

Already released information states that Modern Combat 5 will begin in Venice, Italy — where main character Phoenix must stop a group of well-armed terrorists from transporting weapons of mass destruction. The game will then whisk players around the globe for various missions filled with spectacular set pieces (including helicopter and speedboat-based moments), alongside the usual twists and intrigue.

Modern Combat 5: Blackout was originally slated for release in 2013, although it was postponed to 2014 to let developers “fully achieve” their full vision for the title.

Speaking personally, I can’t wait for it. In the meantime, here’s a trailer:

They should bring in the people who made battle field 4 and add things like assult shields and the ability to use vehicles like tanks, bikes, planes, boats, helicopters, all that stuff, I would not care if it takes up like 4 gig because I would gladly delete all my other games for it, anyway, my ipad has plenty of gig any way
