You can preorder the newly updated Beats Solo Buds headphones June 18 and expect shipping to commence June 20, Apple subsidiary Beats by Dre said.

At just about half the cost of AirPods 3 and ready-made to pair with Apple devices with long battery life and a truly tiny case, the new buds could be a tempting get for a lot of folks. And big sound is promised, too, according to the video below.

UPDATE: As noted above, Beats Solo Buds became available to order today, Tuesday, June 18, and should ship starting Thursday.

Beats Solo Buds preorders begin June 18 with June 20 shipping

New Beats Solo Buds prioritize long battery life over Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), relying on passive noise isolation instead. And the case is now smaller — the smallest Beats has produced — thanks in part to the lack of battery or wireless charging, for an even easier carry. And you can charge it by cable from any of your devices.

Beats said the ergonomically designed acoustic nozzles with vents provide a comfortable fit during extended use. The earbuds come with four sizes of ear tips, including XS, to help users achieve a perfect seal.

Each earbud features a custom-designed microphone and an advanced noise-learning algorithm, promising clear call quality. Users can customize the “b” button to control music playback, activate their phone’s voice assistant or adjust other functions. Additionally, the button’s long-press action can be customized.

Beats Solo Buds features

Here’s how Beats describes the new Beats Solo Buds’ sound and design upgrades (or watch the informative video above):

Sound

  • Custom-built acoustic architecture tuned for music first to deliver big Beats sound with full range and clarity.
  • Dual-layer drivers minimize micro-distortions across the frequency curve, ensuring high-fidelity sound with uncompromising accuracy.
  • Axial-aligned drivers are positioned parallel to the acoustic nozzle to deliver sound more directly to your ears.

Design

  • The smallest, lightest case Beats has ever made.
  • Ergonomically angled acoustic nozzles for a natural fit.
  • Laser-cut vents engineered to improve bass performance while gently relieving air pressure for added comfort.
  • Four eartip options (XS, S, M & L) to fit a wider range of ear sizes.

Long battery life

While the new Beats Solo Buds may not top the charts in sound quality compared to premium offerings from Apple and the likes of Sony, their standout feature is battery life. Beats boasts that these earbuds offer the longest battery life in their lineup, with up to 18 hours of playback.

Although wireless charging is not supported, the charging case features fast wired charging via USB-C. A 5-minute quick charge provides an additional hour of music playback.

Other notable features include one-touch pairing for iOS and Android devices, and integration with Apple’s Find My or Google’s Find My Device services.

Color choices are Matte Black, Storm Gray, Arctic Purple and Transparent Red. But you can get Arctic Purple only at Apple and Target. Beats also recently released Beats Solo 4 headphones.

Price: $79.99
