I hate cables, especially when traveling, but it always seems like I’m walking around with a whole suitcase full of spare electric umbilicals when I go on a trip. The MacAlly Dualsync nicely consolidates two of the cables I need: an Apple Dock Connector and a microUSB cable, thanks to the ingenuity of a removable, Apple-compliant head.
I’m also pretty fetched by the way the whole thing winds back down to just four and a half inches from a maximum length of about two feet. The price ain’t shabby, either: it’ll cost you just twenty five bucks.

i am a little confused about the “Stupid” part in the title
This is actually a pretty convenient cable for some users. I plan on getting the Sony Tablet P which syncs via micro USB. I’m starting to like Macally after being pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality of their bamboo MacBook Pro [laptop] cooling stand.Â
So, rather than having two separate cables, of small size, you rather have one cable land a little plug thingy to get lost. I’m not seeing the logic. Small CR bags make great accessory organizers.
Has Apple really allowed them to make a micro-usb to 30-pin connecter?
I would rather just buy the winding mechanism and use the factory cord
Apple allows anyone to make these and any other cables. Â Some cables and connectors require a licence however. Â
Mostly startups and fly-by-night cable makers don’t like to buy a licence, then they cry foul when Apple sues them.Â
Look up the KISS principle.

$25 for what can be had for two $2 cables wound up in a nice small loop.
If they had really thought this through a bit more – they would have tethered the 30-pin connector so it doesn’t get lost. What to these people do at work?
I’ve been using a $5 version I found on Amazon and I love it!
