We can stop wondering about the details of the M5 iPad Pro — a YouTuber apparently got hold of Apple’s next tablet and revealed nearly everything about it. That includes running benchmark tests on the unreleased processor and finding a huge jump in graphics performance.
His time with the tablet — assuming this is a legitimate leak — shows that Apple must consider the previous M4 iPad Pro to be an excellent device because all that changed seems to be the newer, faster M5 processor.
M5 iPad Pro unboxed, benchmarked and shown off a month before announcement
It’s an open secret that Apple is prepping an iPad Pro upgraded with the Apple M5 processor for release this autumn. Numerous sources — Bloomberg, Digitimes and more — agree. Besides, the previous version has been out since spring 2024, and after well over a year, it’s time for a replacement.
The Apple M4 processor actually originally debuted in the 2024 iPad Pro, long before it went into a Mac, and history will supposedly repeat itself with the M5. So it’s a Big Deal that Russian YouTuber Wylsacom was able to unbox an 2025 iPad Pro on video and run benchmark tests on the unreleased processor.
While there’s certainly room for suspicion that this is an elaborate hoax, Wylsacom was able to unbox and benchmark a real M4 MacBook Pro a month before the laptop launched. If he can do it once, he can do it again.
M5 iPad Pro unboxing: The good news
Those eager to get their hands on either a 2025 iPad Pro or an M5 processor for a future Mac should be pleased to learn that the chip offers a 16% performance gain over an M4 iPad Pro in a Geekbench 6 multi-core CPU test run by Wylsacom. A further Geekbench 6 test showed a whopping 34% increase in graphics performance.
In addition, the benchmarking application revealed that the M5 iPad Pro includes 12GB of RAM — that’s 50% more than the current M4-based model.
Those planning to buy a 2025 iPad Pro should be happy that it has the same external design as its predecessor, so it remains compatible with already existing cases designed for the 2024 version. Wylsacom tested to be sure.
The bad news
This leak doesn’t offer just good news. A report this summer indicated that the M5 iPad Pro would add a second set of front-facing cameras and Face ID scanners to improve using the tablet in portrait mode. Wylsacom found no sign of this.
The YouTuber also devoted much of his latest video to complaining that this is a “chip and ship” update. It’s essentially the 2024 iPad Pro with the M4 replaced with an M5. He’s clearly no fan of tablets in general, so he skims over that the computer is super slim and lightweight, and makes no mention of the Tandem OLED display that’s better looking than the one in any MacBook.

M5 iPad Pro: Coming soon
While Wylsacom’s M5 iPad Pro unboxing video seems reliable, it’s undeniably only a leak and therefore suspect. We can’t be certain of the real specifications of the tablet until Apple announces it.
That’s expected to happen as early as October. It’s only a few weeks away. The wait for an M5 Mac could be longer — those aren’t expected until early 2026.
