Apple’s new external monitors for Mac inch closer to release, with their mass production set to begin soon. They should debut alongside the M5-powered MacBooks within the next six months.
In addition to the above, Apple will also refresh the Vision Pro and iPad Pro with faster chips.
M5 MacBooks and next-gen Apple monitors near mass production
Apple typically launches new MacBook Pro models in Q4 every year. And since switching to Apple silicon, it has stuck to a yearly refresh cycle for them. The company unveiled the M4 MacBook Pros on October 30, 2024.
With their first anniversary approaching, Apple is preparing to launch M5-powered MacBooks. However, there are conflicting reports about their release, with some indicating an early 2026 launch and others saying a late 2025 debut.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reiterated the same release timeline in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. The machines will soon enter mass production — an important stage before their public release.
“These devices are still slated for release between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year, but it’s exciting to know these are nearing a key stage,” says Gurman.
Alongside the MacBooks, Apple’s next-gen Mac monitors with the codenames J427 and J527 will soon enter mass production as well. The Cupertino company has not updated its external monitor lineup in a few years now. It will be interesting to see what upgrades Apple brings to the next Studio Display after years without an update.
M5 iPad Pro coming soon
Besides new M5-powered MacBooks and monitors, Apple will also launch an M5 iPad Pro refresh. It should debut later this year, likely via a press release, as it won’t pack any radical improvements except for a secondary Face ID camera.
The spotlight, however, will be on the M5 itself — building on the M4’s impressive gains in performance and efficiency to push Apple silicon even further.
