Custom buttons, gestures or scrolling tweaks suddenly not working on your Logitech mouse or keyboard on Mac? You’re not alone.

The Logi Options+ app stopped working properly Tuesday, and the failure is taking a large chunk of Logitech’s ecosystem down with it. Luckily, Logitech issued a patch early Wednesday to fix the problem.

Expired certificate cripples Logitech keyboards and mice on macOS

You must use the Logi Options+ app on your Mac to get the most out of a Logitech keyboard or mouse. Using the app, you can set up custom keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures, assign custom actions to extra buttons on the mouse or keyboard, etc. These shortcuts and triggers don’t work without the app.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Mac users with Logitech mice or keyboards are facing right now. Reports from frustrated users are pouring in on Reddit about problems caused by an expired security certificate for the Options+ software. (The problem also affects Logitech’s G Hub software that lets gamers customize their setups.)

“Hey Logitech, update the cert for the macOS version of Logi Options+,” wrote Reddit user Admiral_Ackbar_1325 on Tuesday. “App just spins and spins all because they didn’t update their code signing cert. That’s embarrassing for any company, let alone one as big as Logitech.”

macOS treats an expired certificate as a hard failure. That means the app can’t authenticate or run as intended. This explains why the problem is limited to macOS. Logitech accessories and the Logi Options+ app remain unaffected on Windows.

No wonder opening the Logi Options+ app on a Mac results in an endless spinning wheel. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app again doesn’t help resolve the problem, either. As a temporary workaround, some users found that changing their Mac’s system date back to January 5 brought Logi Options+ back to life.

Logitech issues a fix

Logitech posted a support page acknowledging the problem and offering a free patch to get Logi Options+ and/or G Hub working again.

“A new ‘patch’ installer for Logitech Options+ and G Hub is now available to fix an issue that caused the apps to stop working on macOS,” the company wrote. “The problem was caused by an expired certificate required for the apps to run. Because the certificate also affected the in‑app updater, you will need to manually download and install the updated version of the app.”

The company posted an updated installer for Logi Options+ and G Hub that it says fixes the problem and restores normal functionality.

“Your settings and customizations will not be lost, and the app(s) will work normally again after this quick patch installation,” Logitech said.

Users can download the fix from Logitech and follow the installation instructions to get Logi Options+ and G Hub working.
