It’s November 1st. Where The Hell Is iTunes Match?

Apple has seemingly missed its iTunes Match launch date after promising at its ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event early last month that the new service would be up and running in the United States at the “end of October.” Developers who have been testing the service in beta are discovering today that the iTunes 10.5.1 beta has now ended, with no replacement in sight.

iTunes Match originally became available to developers with a beta release of iTunes 10.5, but with its launch date delayed, the service was taken out of the public release and put into another beta, iTunes 10.5.1.

Now that we have entered November, iTunes Match has missed its expected release, and Apple is yet to comment on the delay. However, it is expected to launch imminently, according to reports, with Apple retail staff having already been prepared for the cloud-based music matching service. Many developers, in fact, expect iTunes Match to officially launched today.

The Cupertino company company has also performed a number of wipes for users’ iTunes Match libraries, with the most recent taking place last Wednesday, in preparation for its public debut. But for developers who have continued to use the service, they may now be stuck without a working copy of iTunes.

The iTunes 10.5.1 beta ended today, and Apple is yet to issue an update, which will mean that those with this version of iTunes will be unable to open the application today.

I’m not surprised. The developers seems to be finding the whole thing a bit of a mess. scanning not working properly, not the complete collection being recognised when the stuff is in the store etc.

It’s november 1st… Where the hell is the unlocked iPhone 4S? I’ve waiting for it since, like a year ago! (i know it’s off topic, but I can’t wait any longer).

From what I’ve heard back from developers (mostly reading stuff online) every iTunes Match beta sounded kinda broken. Didn’t sound like an Apple Product, honestly.

Well here’s my perspective.  I purchased the new Kelly Clarkson CD for $1 cheaper then iTunes Store at a real retail location (complete with physical CD in hand), ripped it into iTunes, and the silly iTunes won’t even get the cover art for the CD!!!  If it can’t even get cover art for the new Kelly Clarkson CD how the hell is it going to match up the CD with iTunes match??

Apple is really dropping the ball with the iCloud thing.  Look at how well the Google Music and Amazon Cloud music services work (on non i-Devices of course).  Sure you have to upload all your stuff, but at least it WORKS, and it reads the tags from your library so you don’t have to worry about it not recognizing your music.

I’m severely disappointed in iCloud.. I thought that all the files in my documents folder on my mac would sync up to the cloud and be accessible from my iPhone or any other device or computer connected up to the cloud.. Nope… Have to manually upload a document, and even then it is only available on my iPhone, not my Mac!  Then there’s the issue of syncing, and all the sync problems with contacts, calendar, etc…

Anyway, I know, it’s a version 1 product, but Apple TOTALLY screwed up with .ME and you would think they would have had plenty of time to work out the kinks for the new iCloud… Apparently not.

I totally expect most of my music not to be “matched” because the majority is live music downloaded and purchased directly from the artists (thank you umlive.net and livephish.com).  I don’t care.  as long as I get to put my music into outer space and access it from my iPhone instead of streaming it directly from my mac at home with StreamToMe, I’ll be happy.  just turn it on already!

  7. Camelwalker says:

What the hell are you getting the Kelly Clarkston CD for anyway? Don’t blame iTunes for having a good taste in music.

I know how you feel. I bought this Justin Bieber CD and …

  9. Jesusaguilar6194 says:

i got the option to activate it on my ipad but its asking me to connect to a computer and purchase the service so who knows maybe soon

  10. Jessie Yelle says:

It also bugs me that when I’ve purchased something, I can only re-download it if it still exists in the iTunes store. I was moving some music and lost some files, and even though I bought them from the store – it shows up in my “purchased” history, iTunes no longer carries the album. I can’t access my own music that I paid for! I can’t think of any polite words for this.

  12. Rob says:

The beta is still working for me here. Just uninstalled and reinstalled and it is working. iTunes Match otoh…. error 4100 :(

  13. Jack McClauren says:

Steve Jobs took it with him along with the iPhone 5.

  14. UncaughtException says:

Why should iTunes give you album art for free for something you bought somewhere else? If I come to eat at a table in your restaurant, but bring food from another restaurant to eat, would you be as ‘severely disappointed’ and give me silverware to eat my food with?

C’mon man, finding album artwork on the web and adding it yourself in iTunes is not. that. hard.
