Apple just added iPad to its Self Service Repair program. All the tablets it introduced in 2024 and earlier this year are included.
The DIY program provides customers access to parts and tools they need to fix their own devices, and already includes many models of iPhone and Mac.
Apple Self Service Repair program finally expands to iPad
The Self Service Repair program is Apple’s answer to criticism from “right to repair” advocates. It helps users set right the most common problems with its products, like broken iPhone screens or worn-out batteries.
The list of supported computers is extensive, covering 65 products. The iPhone 12 series and all newer models are included, as are Mac mini, Mac Pro and MacBook models stretching back to 2020.
But there were no iPads included in the Self Service Repair program — until now.
“At Apple, our goal is to create the world’s greatest products that last as long as possible,” said Brian Naumann, Apple’s vice president of AppleCare. “With today’s announcement, we’re excited to expand our repair services to more customers, enabling them to further extend the life of their products — all without compromising safety, security, or privacy.”
Starting Thursday, components and tools are available to fix iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16). Repairs can be made to common problems, including displays, batteries, cameras and external charging ports.
New Macs and iPhones, too
Not to be overlooked, also now part of the Apple Self Service Repair program are the recently released iPhone 16e, MacBook Air and Mac Studio.
The program offers access to the same manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.
The program is available in the United States and much of Europe. It is open to all, but Apple warns it’s best for “individuals with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices.”
To get started, review the repair manual for the product to be fixed on Apple’s support website. Then visit the Apple Self Service Repair Store to order the necessary parts and tools.
