iOS Alarms Fail To Go Off Correctly All Over Europe

By

Brits depending on their iOS devices to wake them up for work or school in the morning got a seriously gaffe-prone error call this morning, after alarms all around the Isles failed to go off at the proper time this morning, ranging from going off one hour too late to not at all.

It wasn’t just Brits either. The rest of Europe’s iPhone owners were plagued by the same bug, after clocks were moved forward by an hour on Sunday.

The culprit? Apparently, that same stupid time change bug that hit iPhone users last autumn.

It’s not entirely clear if this is a bug still present in iOS 4.3 or one that is only affecting users who have failed to update from iOS 4.2.1.

Any of our readers in Europe want to help us get to the bottom of this? Join the comments and give us a rundown of what happened with your alarms this morning, along with what device and version of iOS you have.

I live in Philadelphia, PA and this happened to me on my iPhone at the changing of daylight savings. I still haven’t updated to 4.3, so I just changed the alarm to an hour ahead and set a back up alarm on my real alarm clock.

  13. Snackound says:

No problem with my repeating alarm this morning, unlike in the autumn of 2010. iOS 4.3. iphone 3GS

  14. Fred says:

This happened to me, I have the latest ios (4.3.1) and one alarm that wakes me up on the same time every morning 7 days a week. My other non-active alarms that I hardly ever use were fine however. No big deal for me since I usually wake up before the alarm anyway.

The strange thing however was that I could not change it back to the right time, when i turned the alarm back one hour it automatically changed back to the wrong time. I solved it by changing my alarm time to one minute before the usual time.

Tried changing it back right now and it’s working properly again…weird…

iPhone and iPad on 4.3 (not on 4.3.1 yet)

The Auto clock changes and the Alarms went off on time this morning. I had no problems.

settings / mail / time zone support — turn it off

  17. John says:

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2.1 jailbroken, Date and Time are set to update automatically. Time change occured correctly, repeating alarm sounded Monday morning correctly. Everything seems normal.

A thought: Maybe this is not a problem of the iPhone but with the server the phone uses to update its time?
