iOS 5’s New Welcome Screen Shows You What The Post-PC World Looks Like [Video]

Here’s a video look at iOS 5’s incredible new PC-free setup. We posted some pictures yesterday, but seeing it in fluid motion… it’s just so graceful. This is the way it’s supposed to be.

When Steve Jobs said yesterday that they were demoting the Mac to just another device, my heart seized up a bit in a bit of premonitory fear of the future. But Steve’s right, as he so often is. The iPhones in our pockets aren’t second class citizens to the desktop. They aren’t miniature, undeveloped computers birthed from the PC and connected by a umbilical cord to iTunes. They’re the most important computer most of us own, and they deserve autonomy and respect.

Its not really as amazing as everyone makes out it is, iDevices are (OR SHOULD I SAY WERE, RITE GUISE!?) the only devices which needed to be connected to a computer to run.
We were all complaining at the release of the iPad 1, saying how stupid it is.  Now, they use common sense to get rid of this stupidity and they’re geniuses.
    Go figure.

I’ve never heard anyone say they were geniuses for cutting the cord. This article is pertaining to the design elegance which is genius.

    Read around.
    You’ll see.

Or you could link the the Apple sources that are calling themselves geniuses over this. Or go back to the Android forums.

the iphone etc never needed a computer ‘to run’. If you are going to bash, at least get the details right.

The computer was for activation and back up as required tasks. That’s all. And now that is gone. which is great for the grannies and the kiddies that won’t remember to do it by hand. But you never had to leave it hooked to the computer for it to actually operate as your comment implies

as for the ‘genius’ comments, few of them have been about cutting the cord and more about the automatic downloads etc. My nephews school is thrilled about that because they are looking to add ipads to their GT classes in the fall and were worried about adding and updating software. They were going to have to have someone to around with a laptop to each of the 6 classes (about 150 units in all) to update them because they don’t want to be telling the teachers the password cause it could get out to the kids and cause trouble. Now it sounds like they can set up the units for automatic downloads and hopefully that will cover them. Just need to see if it works when the unit is under restrictions.

Question– unrelated… What’s the piece of music under this video?  Shazam and SoundHound both can’t I.D. it.  Driving me nuts.
