While most people know iFixit for its brilliant teardown videos of Apple gear, its primary business is selling repair tools and other accessories. And that now includes a new 65W wall charger with a 6-foot cable.

As one might expect from a company known for looking inside devices, part of the housing for the new iFixit Fast Charger USB-C AC Adapter is transparent, showing off the internal components.

iFixit Fast Charger USB-C AC Adapter has a clear advantage

Apple wall chargers are functional but their designs are uninspired: simple white boxes. The new one from iFixit adds some verve with a clear section in the outer casing.

“In true iFixit fashion, we made sure you can see the tech that will power your stuff,” said the company.

The Fast Charger USB-C AC Adapter is smaller than the previous generation of power adapters because the designers used Gallium Nitride, which produces less heat than silicon. This makes the components more energy efficient and compact.

And speaking of compact, the device has a horizontal orientation so it doesn’t hog a multi-plug wall socket ket. it measures in at 2 inches by 2 inches by 1.1 inches.

The device’s single USB-C port can put out 65W. That’s more than enough to juice up an iPhone or iPad at full speed, and capable of quickly charging MacBooks, too.

As part of the package, iFixit included a 6-foot USB-C cable ready to be plugged into a Mac or iPad.

Price and availability

The iFixit Fast Charger USB-C AC Adapter is available now for $64.99.

Buy it from: iFixit

For comparison, consider the Apple 96W USB-C Power Adapter. It puts out more power, but is bulkier and comes in at $79 without a charging cable.
