Apple has just released a tiny 768kb update to Migration Assistant for Snow Leopard, and if you’re planning on transferring your files and settings from a Snow Leopard Mac to a machine with Lion, you’ll need to grab this, because otherwise you’re out of luck.
According to the update notes:
This update addresses an issue with the Migration Assistant application in Mac OS X Snow Leopard that prevents transfer of your personal data, settings, and compatible applications from a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard to a new Mac running Mac OS X Lion.
Note that you don’t need this update if you just plan on installing Lion atop of Snow Leopard tomorrow: this is only necessary if you’re going to install Lion on one machine, then transfer settings from a Snow Leopard machine through Migration Assistant.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I wonder if the upgrade to LION will go as smoothly as the iPhoto 11 upgrade did where people lost a ton of their photos? I think I’ll pass on the initial upgrade and give it a month or two to sort out the kinks, my Snow Leopard is working just fine right now on its own.
I’ve never updated an OS in all my years, instead just got a new computer with it haha.
Would installing Lion delete all my Snow Leopard files, settings, etc?
Obviously not unless you ask it to do a clean install.

I have a time machine backup of a mac with snow leopard that I made back in June. I want to put it on my new mac with Lion but it won’t have this update. I don’t have the old mac to install this update on and update my time machine backup so what can I do??
any suggestions please?
