Thanks to the newly-released Absinthe untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, you can finally get Siri up and running on Apple’s latest tablet. The process isn’t an easy one, as you will need to set up your own SiriProxy server and edit your iPad’s filesystem.

If you have the time and stamina to get Siri up and running on the iPad 2, you’ll be able to take advantage of all the voice assistant goodness that’s available on the iPhone 4S. You’ll also be able to install other jailbreak tweaks to enhance Siri’s functionality.

Jeff of iDownloadBlog walks through getting Siri up and running on a jailbroken iPad 2:

Check out iDB’s full post for more detailed steps. You’ll need to install the Spire jailbreak tweak and have a SiriProxy server running on either your Mac or a separate machine. You’ll need to be on the same network as your proxy server for Siri to work, and there’s a chance that you could brick your iPad if you don’t follow Jeff’s steps exactly. Make sure that you have a recent iCloud or iTunes backup ready in case you need to restore your iPad 2.

Jailbreaking an iPad to run Siri on it is illegal.  Through this article you are promoting, aiding and abetting a crime.

I know you don’t care anyway, but someone has to say it.

This is such a joke. I jailbroke my iPod Touch weeks ago hoping to install Siri. That was easy, it’s finding a stupid proxy server that isn’t. All she says is: “I’m sorry, I can’t help you out with that right now. Try again later”

Not to mention she makes my iPod run like Sh1t.

I thought iPads and iPhones were the most perfect device ever?

  9. alexheath says:

Sorry, but you’re wrong. Distributing Siri is illegal, using it on your own iOS devices is not.

everytime I restart after changing off the apple setting, it restarts in to this horrible ipad-iphone state, that I can’t get out of without restoring. :(

Plus the Siri key files were made available by apple in the 9A406 build, go troll somewhere else.

  12. Srome95 says:

    “iPad” not “iPod” read.

  13. Srome95 says:

Exactly, not on an iPod. People don’t read…

why is it so hard to make siri proxy server i’ve spent days trying to do it and I always run into a problem grr it’s so frustrating why can’t someone make a program that’s just like
    1. Plug in 4S
    2. Enter address of your server
    3. Done

I guess I can’t complain at least lots of others have it working

Hey all, I have siri installed on my ipad 2 and here are a few of the issues I ran into.

Step 1: Install Spire on the iPad 2.

Download and install iFile from Cydia. Open iFile and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from On to Off and tap Done. Restart your iPad.
Once back up, open Cydia, and install Spire, it will ask you to reboot again.
Once back up, go back into /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/ using iFile. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from Off to On and tap Done and exit iFile.

Step 2: Setup your proxy server or purchase a license to one of the many pay ones.  Install your certs, and copy your IP to spire.

Step 3: Open the Settings app and go to General > Siri. Enable Siri.

At this point I had siri installed, but it would not bring up things like weather or time, or stock, or directions to places.

This is because your Ipad 2 does not have the apps installed for siri to use.
What I did was copy the weather.app, stock.app, and clock.app from the applications folder an iphone 4 and synced them with itunes. This installed them on my ipad 2 and siri used them when I asked for weather or stock or what time it was.

I’m still having problems getting it to work with directions.

I had to edit the info.plist file in the maps.app and add the line:

    <key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key>
                <array>
                    <string>maps</string>
                    <string>mapitem</string>  <—- this one
                </array>

to make the maps app load up.

If you don’t like Apple then why are you on a website that is called CULT OF MAC??

  19. wtb61155 says:

Ran into two problems.  First I have no “Accounts”  or “Dictionary” listing under com.apple.assistant.plist, only “Session Language”  Adding the three new listings doesn’t seem to work.  Siri responds “Sorry I can’t……” every time.  I have obviously missed something along the way.  Any ideas would be aprreciated.
