Do you hate Apple’s own AirPods Max case? Gucci now offers a fancy alternative that costs only twice as much as the headphones themselves.
The Ophidia case brings “vintage and contemporary together through its archive-inspired design elements” — whatever that means. It’s also emblazoned with a pretentious quote (in Latin, of course) on the inside. Order yours now for $980.
Gucci’s AirPods Max case is … interesting?
I think we can all admit the included AirPods Max case isn’t great. It has been widely mocked — often compared to a lady’s brassiere — since Apple’s high-end wireless headphones made their debut. But at least it’s simple and subtle.
Gucci’s Ophidia case is anything but. Like a lot of Gucci products, it’s covered in the company’s familiar “GG Supreme” canvas in beige and ebony, with brown leather details, gold-toned hardware, and a gold GG badge.
On the inside, there’s a neoprene and viscose lining to keep your AirPods Max safe and snug. It’s printed with “Hodiernum,” a Latin word that means “belonging to the present day,” Gucci says. Ugh.

Like the original AirPods Max case, Gucci’s leaves your headphone’s canopy exposed, making them easy to carry. There’s also a shoulder strap if you would prefer to wear them and keep your hands free.
The Ophidia case is an online exclusive, and if you want one of your own, you can expect to pay a rather eye-watering $980. For that money, you can get two pairs of AirPods Max on Amazon, and have plenty of change left over.
