Attack on Titan, the cult-hit in ink (manga) and on the small screen (anime), is getting a live-action treatment this summer. The good news is that the feature film is hitting Japan on August 1 and Australia and New Zealand later this same year. The bad news is that we have no details on a U.S. release, though both the manga and anime are still available in this country.
The film is the first of two planned parts, with the second flick, Attack on Titan: End of the World, headed to Japan this coming September.
The story in Attack on Titan takes place in a world where gigantic, malevolent beings called Titans have forced humanity to live behind massive walls to protect themselves from the giants. Eren Yeager (Haruma Miura) and his adoptive sister, Misaka Ackerman (Kiko Mizuhara), join together with the elite fighting unit known as the Survey Corps after their mother dies as a result of a Titan breaching the city walls. They battle the Titans in the hopes of restoring humanity’s rightful place on the planet.
Attack on Titan is directed by Shinji Higuchi (The Last Princess), and looks to be a pretty faithful re-creation of the anime, at least, as you can see in the trailer for that animated series below.

I hope it’s not as “shouty” as the animated series. It seems like nobody there can talk in a normal tone of voice.
Of course when you’re being chased and eaten by an enormous giant, it may be a bit hard to keep centered and calm. Adrenaline tends to kick in and intensify everything.
Maybe they are all be Asian, and Mikasa will be the only Caucasian left in existence. “Michelle?”
