Get’em While They Are Hot HP TouchPads Starting At $99 [Liquidation]

It looks like HP isn’t waiting to long to get rid of TouchPad stock since sales are cropping up with prices starting at $99. The fire sale comes just one day after HP announced that it would stop production of webOS devices. If you want one it might be time to head to the bargain section of your local electronics store or online retailers website.

According to PreCentral HP has requested that retailers cut the price of the discontinued TouchPad to $99 16GB and $149 32GB starting on August 20th. However, Best Buy and Future Shop, two Canadian retailers have already cut their prices. The sale will supposedly last until August 22nd.

A quick check to see if the sale has reached the US turned up nothing at press time since prices at Bestbuy.com and Walmart.com will still $400 16GB and $500 32GB.

Personally we think that we’ll hold our money — saving it for the iPad 3.

It isn’t really HP’s stock once Best Buy purchased 250,000 units from them. Best Buy was already haven’t problems selling them and probably just wants to end the bad dream.

I’ll think I will spring for one.  Decided that I wanted to wait till next fall and pick up a windows 8 powered Transformer-like tablet/laptop, but for $100, you can’t go wrong.  Plus that gives me a tablet to play with until next fall  :)  Hopefully they bring that pricing to the U.S. soon.

Best buy US web site says none available.

So what do you do with it? No apps. What would be the point?

  6. Robert Pruitt says:

HP must stand for “Huge Pussies”.  I can’t believe they are bailing on WebOS, tablets, laptops and PC’s like this.  Are they so fragile and hurting for ideas they can’t do anything at this point but throw in the towel?  This makes me sick.

  7. Jdsonice says:

Yeah why waste $100 on something that will no longer be supported in the future. Now if HP gave it to me for $9.99 I might consider it but I doubt that will happen.

  8. Bruleto says:

I’m not 100% positive but Best Buy and HP probably have some buy-back agreement for unsold or overstock quantities. I’m sure HP will be providing their retail partners with significant subsidies to account for the price drop.

  10. cliqsquad says:

HP issued developer email, I got it stating that they will continue to develop webOS and will be announcing and continue hold developer events. I will continue to develop for webOS and now I have $100 beat up device to go along side my beautiful iPad 2

  11. cliqsquad says:

Best Buy confirmed they are sending them back tomorrow to HP. HP issued the word to third party retailers to drop the price to $99 to dump the inventory

  12. GrimWit says:

Still $399 even on the HP site.  Why do they ask retailers to cut the price and not take the lead!

CRAAAZZYYY! Just doubling up on screwing the loyal webOS fanboys who picked one up early launch. Not to mention early pre adopters got $50 off the 32GB when it was $600 as if that was compensation and now this. Absolutely insulting. Im glad i saw webOS staying a trainwreck a while ago and im hopping to iOS camp come ip5.

Why would I want an orphan device on a soon to be obsolete mobile platform?  Like others have noted, save the $$$ for something with promise and a future.

  25. Starman_Andromeda says:

Indeed.  My timing may be off, but didn’t the announcement from HP that they were sinking the TouchPad (TP down the drain) come soon after Best Buy told them they were returning hundreds of thousands of them???

  26. S iFR says:

HP site has a form that you can fill out to be notified by e-mail when new Touchpads are in stock for the 16gig/$99 price.  I got a “Server Too Busy” error message when I clicked submit.  Guess I’ll just keep trying… I have a feeling I’m gonna miss out on this deal.

Just dropped by my local Best Buy in Lynnwood , WA just north of Seattle. They had the sale starting at 2:30 and ripped through them right in front of me. It was like a pack of wolves trying to score one. You should have seen it. What a sight. I was there buying my wife her iPad and a microwave. What a plastic POS….Maybe if they were $10….
