Former Apple exec Michael Barnick is selling his $35 million California mansion, and all we can say is … wow!
Not only is the home the epitome of iPod minimalist modernism, but it’s (perhaps unsurprisingly) pretty high-tech, too. Controllable entirely via iPhone or iPad, the list of automated features includes lighting, music, TV, air conditioning, window blinds, fireplaces and door locks — with Barnick himself designing the home-automation setup.
Check out some of the gorgeous pictures below.
Barnick was retired when he started work on the ocean-side house, but apparently got so into the home-automation angle that he started up a new company, Quantum Integration, which now installs similar tech for other people.
Ironically, after putting in years of work obsessively getting every detail of the 3.7-acre Santa Barbara County home just right, Barnick says his family has grown up and he and his wife no longer need such a massive $35 million property. He never actually got the chance to live there.
We’ve all been there, right? Right?

i started working from home, doing various simple jobs which only required desktop or laptop computer and Net access and I couldn’t be happier…It’s been six months since i started this and i made so far total of 37,000 dollars. Basicly i profit about 80 dollars every hour and work for 3 to 4 hours a day. And the best part about this job is that you can decide when to work yourself and for how long .and you get a paycheck weekly……gfvfgfgfg..

It´s a nice home. But keeping it clean must be hell :-D
You can best bet he or his family is not the one keeping it clean. And besides, think about how long it takes to dirty up each of the rooms. You could probably live the entire week in just one room, and then move to another one the following week or month.
hahahaha
Hahahah! If I owned a 35M house rest assured I would do no cooking, cleaning or lawn care! Good grief….if I could afford that I’d pay for a gym membership and then pay someone else to lift the weights and do the cardio!
:-) Then again, if you own a 35m house, most likely you´d have no more money left :-D
Rich people do not need to do any cleaning at all. I bet they don’t even need to make their own beds.
Is it me, or is that a ground-level bathroom with floor to ceiling windows and no shades.
I guess some may think, when you’re that rich, who gives a crap if anyone sees ya in your birthday suit. But yeah it is kinda weird.
Might be that glass that a switch will turn it opaque. ?
Damn, so that’s why Apple products are so expensive. Well, at least he doesn’t have to be bothered by homeless people hanging out around his place. I’m pretty sure he has another mansion in Europe or China.
Yes, that’s the conclusion you can draw, isn’t it. Back under your bridge, Mr Troll.
Not trolling at all. Simply making a point about capitalism and the class divide in this country. I don’t get all glassy eyed by the lives of the rich and famous, and unfortunately I like other Apple consumers apparently help provide the wealth of people like this former employee. I’m sure he deserves every penny. And no, me and others not buying Apple products is going to change one thing about the wealth gap. It will take a lot more than that.
And why do you think something should be done about the ‘wealth gap?’ He is rich, I am not but I am most likely as happy as he is and don’t really want any his money to lessen the ‘wealth gap.’ Though Al Gore, Warren Buffet, Barack Obama may tell you something has to be done, none of them are going to be giving you any of their money. :-) Best not to envy others for their money and get on with life, enjoy what you have and remember health beats any amount of money if you have it. I imagine Steve Jobs would have thrown millions at you if you could have given him another year of life to enjoy with his family.
By the way, study some history and you will find socialism and communism had some huge class divides. Don’t believe what those wanting to take your money for the good of society tell you. Capitalism has lifted more out of poverty than any other system.
“He never actually got the chance to live there” – more money than sense?
“he and his wife no longer need such a massive $35 million property.”
Indeed, no one does.
I can see it being $15 million or maybe $20 million, but $35 million??
That is a simple design house. Even with the hi land cost in CA, the dude overpaid for the construction of this 10,000 sq ft house. Some aspects are nice like the light colors, natural light and glass. Modern features make upkeep easier to clean, especially the kitchen and bathroom. A bit overdone. Construction cost should not have exceeded $5M in most parts of the country. $35M? Not even close to reality.
That is why the government need to raise Fed rates to 3% and long term rates to 6-7% at least.
