Apple’s long-awaited foldable phone took another step out of the shadows on Monday, as a flurry of new leaks put a face — and a few specs — to a device the company has yet to officially acknowledge.

The most eye-catching development came via Chinese social media platform Weibo. There leaker Ice Universe posted what appears to be a single photograph of a white folding iPhone prototype. The image shows a white-backed device with two rear cameras and a front that appears close to being all-screen. However, shrinkwrapping on the front panel makes it difficult to judge bezel size with any confidence.

Ice Universe built a reasonably solid reputation in Apple-leak circles, but the image comes with real caveats. The device probably already entered early mass production. What’s shown is most likely a dummy unit rather than a functional prototype. AppleInsider also noted the “Bigfoot factor.” If Ice Universe had genuine access to such a device, one would expect more than a single angle of a single shot.

Still, the image aligns with what other sources have been saying for months about iPhone Ultra. It fits prior claims about the camera configuration and matches CAD drawings that leaker Sonny Dickson shared in March 2026.

Two colors, both on the understated side

As for what colors the foldable iPhone may ship in, the emerging picture is a restrained one. Fellow leaker Instant Digital said white is currently the only finish that can be called definitively confirmed for the device.

What the second option might be is less certain. A supply chain source cited by Macworld recently suggested it could be a light blue shade distinct from the deep blue finish seen on the iPhone 17 Pro. But now speculation arises that a deep blue or indigo shade could be in the offing rather than dark gray.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has separately reported that Apple intends to keep the palette traditional — think space gray or silver — rather than adventurous, an approach reminiscent of the original iPhone X, which launched in just Silver and Space Gray back in 2017.

The muted lineup may be a practical decision as much as an aesthetic one. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has warned that manufacturing challenges could keep supply tight through at least the end of 2026, and adding more colors would introduce additional complexity to an already demanding production process.

Vapor chamber cooling: a welcome surprise

Perhaps the most technically interesting detail to emerge Monday came from a separate Weibo leaker, Fixed Focus Digital, who claimed the foldable iPhone will include a vapor chamber cooling system — the first time any source has attributed that feature to the device.

Apple introduced vapor chamber cooling to the iPhone lineup with the iPhone 17 Pro last year, overhauling its thermal design to circulate deionized water and move heat away from the chip and across the aluminum frame. Apple said the system delivered 40% better sustained performance on demanding tasks versus the graphite thermal systems used in prior Pro models.

Getting that same technology into a folding phone is a notable engineering achievement, if the claim holds up. iPhone Air, which shares the foldable iPhone’s ultra-thin design philosophy, does not include a vapor chamber. That seems to make it far from a given that the folding model would have one, either. Fixed Focus Digital described the thermal performance as “quite impressive.”

That assessment is especially noteworthy given the iPhone Ultra’s use of titanium in the frame. That raises some thermal management questions of its own.

Production struggles, but September still the target

None of this means the road to launch has been smooth. Fixed Focus Digital acknowledged that pre-assembly manufacturing is under pressure and that the initial production ramp is proving difficult, with the leaker previously pointing to yield problems related to surface-mount technology as a key sticking point.

Despite all that, the September timeline appears intact for now. Fixed Focus Digital said all current indicators point to the foldable remaining on track for its originally planned fall release, and teased that additional significant news about the device would be coming Tuesday. Gurman similarly reported that the device should debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. But he noted that timing was not yet finalized.

The device is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch cover display, Apple’s A20 chip, Touch ID in place of Face ID, and two rear cameras, with pricing anticipated to start around $2,000.
