The official Facebook application for the iPhone has been updated today, introducing new features that allow you to view your friends’ Places check ins in map view, check into events you’re attending, and ‘unfriend’ people directly from your device. The update also makes improvements to the news feed and the notifications UI.
The new map view makes it even easier to discover friends nearby. Though you could already see where you friends were checking in before, it was just a list of locations that often didn’t give much away. Now you can actually see where your friends are and their distance from your current location.
Checking into events and the ability to unfriend people are really welcome updates for the Facebook app. I hardly ever log into Facebook using a web browser anymore – I just use the iPhone app – so if you’re anything like me, being able to respond to event invites and delete people you no longer have any contact with is really helpful.
Version 3.4 of the Facebook app is available to download now from the App Store.

There is no reason for this to not be a universal application. I’d pay 99 cents to buy it, if it were.
no mention of the bug fixes? That’s the most important part to me. the bugs were SO frustrating.
I agree. For months now my mobile facebook will notify me of recent posts but when I click to see them I only get the same notifications that are months old. I have to either click around my friends profiles to try and find them or just go onto my desktop to see them.
they need to add comment liking.
