Reddit’s consensus is that this Apple Store is in Switzerland, and this gentleman packing an assault rifle is just one of Switzerland’s many soldiers just walking around with his BFG in one of the most heavily armed countries in the world.

Our guess? He wants to have a leverage point when the Genius Bar tells him his iPhone has one too many pink moisture indicators for warranty replacement.

What a dumb article… you really don’t have anything important to contribute to Cult of Mac…

Why is the Apple logo at the top of the lid on the right? Is it a sticker or just a bad Photoshop?

  3. wardlawc says:

Something’s funny about this photo. Why is the Apple logo so high on the notebook to the right? Oh, wait, it’s a Vaio that someone stuck an Apple decal on. My bad.

It’s probably for migration assistant to move files from one computer to another.

  5. jen says:

That looks like a sony with the apple sticker on it.

  6. Jäger-Jon Punshon says:

yeah it looks like a sony vaio, clearly it belongs to someone who dreams of having a mac, so spends there free time in the apple store haha

  7. Tamoor Haider says:

its clearly Sony Vaio but I’ve never seen any Sony brand in any iStore I’ve visited.
    That’s strange.

  8. Chris Kahrhoff says:

Its a Sig 550. notice no magazine in the magwell.

If this is Switzerland, this really isn’t an issue – I’m pretty sure by law, every household MUST have at least 1 rifle, and they’re provided by the government.

I’d have to look it up, but I think you’re given one for free when you turn 18.

This is pretty normal in Switzerland, they are required to keep their Military issued rifles at home and they train yearly.

  11. B066Y says:

Sounds like a nice place (and no, I’m not being sarcastic).

  12. Hampus says:

Because it says Vaio right under it… It’s a sony laptop :p

  13. Hampus says:

maybe he is there getting his files moved to his new macbook? just saying

  14. Hampus says:

Ok, so that explains why he has a rifle. But it didn’t explain why he has it on his back when out shopping :p

  15. Mike Rathjen says:

Nice rifle. I wish Sig would make a proper 550 for the US market instead of blending it with AR-15-like parts.

  16. Irshad Farook says:

Is it just me or why is the MacBook on the top right of the image having a logo on the top of its lid?

  17. Irshad Farook says:

    Oh! its a Vaio!

I am Swiss and you do get one while your are in service between the ages of 18 and maximum 50 years old. After your active duty or reserve status is finished, you have to return it. The rifle in the picture is a Sturmgewehr 90 assault rifle built by Swiss Arms AG which was Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft or SIG.

Swiss Arms AG used to be Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft or SIG. it was built around the earlier design of the SG 550.

  22. Angelinajohn says:

    Hmm i think that’s true

  23. Martin Stählin says:

Members of the Swiss Army have to practice once a year in a shooting range. So when they go there, they have their rifle with them.

  24. Sacha Besançon says:

Guys, I am Swiss living in Zurich. Well this isn’t quite normal, if he was on the way to his mandatory annual practice shooting, he must go there directely and not hanging around some shops. I t would be different if he was in uniform on his way to or from service. If the would see him, especially after the vents in Oslo Norway, he would be questionned and forced to leave. There is no mag but also no, i think you call it, lock or shutter, the thing you actually load the weapon…. Cheers

  25. Thomas Böhm says:

And just as a minor remark: this behavior is illegal here in switzerland, too. Yes, any soldier (active or reservist) has his own gun at home. And we have to train once a year on a shooting range. But we have to go directly to the range and directly back home afterwards. So we are not allowed to go shopping armed. But honestly, it’s tolerated by most people, especially if breech and clip is removed.

  26. Thomas Böhm says:

Just don’t forget: it’s maybe normal for us swiss people. But for other countries (maybe except Texas :)) it’s very unusual to see guns on the street, or in stores. So it’s quite remarkable for them.

  27. Shaun says:

Thank god everyone in the UK over 18 doesn’t have a gun or we would really be in the poo right now lol.

  28. Matthias Breuer says:

It’s the logo of the Macbook opposite his Vaio, reflected in the Vaios lid, I would think…

  29. Merrylatina Gopvoter says:

And because there are no guns that the UK store owners can not defend their property
