Despite Resignation, Steve Jobs Will Still Develop Major New Products And Strategy At Apple [Report]

Steve Jobs may have technically resigned as CEO, but according to Walt Mossberg, Jobs is still in charge at Apple, and his position at Cupertino will largely remain “unchanged.”

Citing “extremely well-informed sources at Apple,” Mossberg says:

Extremely well-informed sources at Apple say he intends to remain involved in developing major future products and strategy and intends to be an active chairman of the board, even while new CEO Tim Cook runs the company day to day.

In other words, even though Cook will be handling the day-by-day operations, it’s Steve Jobs who will still be plotting Apple’s future through product design and strategy.

Sounds to us like all Steve Jobs “resigned” from was the boring parts of the job of being CEO.

I wouldn’t say the ‘boring’ parts but the stressful ones. The ones that would cause him to have to work 16 hour days 6 days a week. Which his doctors wouldn’t approve due to the permanent effects that a liver transplant etc would have on one’s health.

Jobs had to make a choice, be CEO and possibly exhaust himself to an earlier death than has to happen or step back to something more of a consultant and take care of himself physically. He choose the latter. I suspect that all those so called expert analysts would also approve of a plan that could have Jobs around (but not day to day in charge) to guide the company for the next 10-15 years over one that could have his health decline and he’s dead in 2.

In fact I suspect that within the next month we’ll see a more formal mention that in addition to Chairman of the Board he is a Product Design and Development Consultant. They made Woz a consultant when he left (although it seems like he does very little anymore but make inane comments that aren’t always as informed as he tries to make it seem)

Very likely. I hope this is the case.

Interesting but does Tim Cook still want to be under Steve’s authority? Maybe Tim knows Steve only means well for the company he co-built, fully revitalized, pushed beyond the threshold of Magical.
